What are you playing now? v2

I find it to be cheap padding, personally. I really loved the Morgan character and his arc, and the game's balls to not make it about Marston(which would've been the easiest route). Now the game is in "Member Marston, and Uncle, and that other game you played to death?" territory. I wouldn't mind it so much, if the game gave you more incentive to truly flesh out the experience. You can still fuck around, but there isn't really a purpose to it, now that the whole camp dynamic is scrapped.

It's like, I know where this ends, so can you just end it already?

Fair enough in being sick of the Rockstar formula though. Personally, I thought the game did a lot to evolve the formula, but since none of it was mandatory, I understand how some felt like a lot of it was pointless. You really have to choose to lose yourself in it. If you don't, it's just another Rockstar open world game, where you go from mission to mission.
There's a part of me that feels like R* treated RDR2 like their swan song for this generation with how the WHOLE GAME Arthur just wants the money to leave the gang and go start a life of normalcy and he doesn't get it partly from the TB and all the other shit that goes down with Micah.

And he sees in John his way to atone for his past sins so he helps John get out of the life. THEN, John gets sucked back in to deal with Micah and FINALLY gets his wife and son back and you see him celebrating at the house living what Arthur wanted not only for Arthur but for John as well.... but the whole time you know that it's short lived for John too.

RDR2 felt LESS about the gameplay and more about R* making a point of "no matter how much shit changes it stays the same" to an extent.

Devil May Cry 5

Full disclosure: I'm salty because I'm rusty as all hell with these types of games and I'm getting my ass handed to me at the moment, but I'll try to keep my initial impressions objective.

Okay, so is this DMC, or MGS? Enough with the fucking cut scenes. It's an action game. I don't want a cut scene every two steps. Maybe it's just the initial sections of the game, but oh' my Christ are the cut scenes ever intrusive. On top of that, you've got loading screens for what seems like every single section. It's ridiculous, and doesn't let you get into any kind of flow. It'll throw some instructions on screen, you're like "Okay, lets try that out", and then BAM, another cut scene...followed by loading screen...followed by a brief gameplay segment...followed by another cut scene and loading screen...

Oy vey.

It did eventually seem to calm down, and let you go about it at a natural pace. Explored some building, fought a bunch, got some S ratings, and then I got to the first official boss in the game(the demon beast dude), and he just keeps whooping my ass, because I'm trying to be creative with what little amount of skills I have, and it's futile. Everything you've done up until that point, does not work. With the regular enemies, you're jumping, juggling, shooting, and doing whatever, and it's working. You get to this dick, and he's like "fuck all that. You gotta get boring, and dodge roll behind me, and slash away at my legs. If you try any kind of diverse attack pattern, I'll fuck your shit up quick."

That said, I think I just need to get over this first wall, and I'll be off to the races. At least I hope so. It seems to have a very robust combat system, with plenty of upgrades to experiment with, but this initial section is practically begging the player to get turned off immediately. The combat I can deal with. The load screens and cut scenes though...I hope they tone that shit down a bit going forward. I have a feeling it will tighten up, but this introduction is ROUGH to say the least.
I started it last night and I forgot how Nero/Dante NEVER start with the "Stinger ability" aka the one where you go racing across the screen to stab someone with the sword. That plus some of the traditional DMC shit like the Air Raid (holding back and the attack button to launch a guy in the air) you can't use right away until the fucking tutorial tells you about it. And I'm not even on the "new to Devil May Cry" setting either.

DMC 5

Okay, so I got past the first boss(which you really just have to take your time with), and my complaints are still holding true about all it's other bullshit. There are literally(and frequently) load screens book-ending 25 second cut scenes. It's ridiculous. For such an intricate battle system, that let's you figure out it's more deep aspects, it treats you like a fucking retard at every other turn. For instance, I beat that boss and it goes into a cut scene showing what you're supposed to do with these platforms, to traverse across some long distances. A general "Hey, use that thing in front of you to jump to the next area". Okay, got it. It then goes on to pause the game to highlight those platforms every time you run into one, like you're too stupid to figure out "I'm supposed to stand on this platform and do the thing that makes it work", like you just told me two fucking seconds ago.

In a nutshell, this game is "Walk forward. Cut scene. Walk forward. Cut scene. Loading screen. Fight small mob. Cut scene. Loading screen. Walk forward. Cut scene. Fight small mob. Cut scene. Loading Screen. Boss room. Cut scene for boss. Fight boss. Cut scene. End of level tally. Upgrade. Loading screen. Cut scene. Walk forward. Cut scene. Fight. Cut scene. Loading screen. Fight. Walk forward. Cut scene. Boss room. Cut scene for boss. Fight Boss. Cut Scene. End of level tally...."

And repeat. There is no flow to this game whatsoever. I think I might be done with it. The combat is okay, but nothing spectacular, and you're constantly being interrupted by bullshit, so you can never really get a feel for anything. It's like listening to someone read a decent book, with a severe case of stuttering. It's just a constant irritation at every turn.

The game looks great, but it honestly feels incomplete from a overall design standpoint. I'm really scratching my head as to how this game got such high praise.

The only game from the series I’ve ever played was DMC 4 on the 360. Fun game but it also had an ungodly amount of cutscenes. Like 2.5 hours worth I think.

Dishonored 2 death of outsider. The original was a really good game. I think the second part and the DLC is still solid but there isn't much improvement from the first game.

Ended the Cult's reign this morning in Odyssey. Pretty spectacular watershed in the AC universe, I thought, and cool visual wrap from the creatives at Ubi Québec. What I'll call HereticBD's Law of Underwater Suck is now well underway as I run around the Greek World looting shipwrecks and whatnot. I swear, swimming and NPC-escort objectives – naught otherwise I hate more in gaming. Embrace the fast-travel woes and oxygen-depleting, plodding clunkiness, I hear the spirits say. O, and sharks.

Finished the third episode of Life is Strange 2 last night.

Been playing BOTW on master mode. Looking forward to the sequel, but the first will be hard to beat.

How is it? I liked the first game, and they seemed to put a bit of their own spin on the Telltale formula, and made the choices at least appear to have more of an impact. Oh', and it didn't lag and glitch all over the place.

More of the same, or have they taken any further steps with the formula?

Waiting for everything to be released before I play it. You liking it so far bro?

It's about the same as the first, but the story is really good in this one too

I like it a lot. I'm getting all the episodes for free with gamepass so I've just been downloading them as them come along. Plus I'm in a holding pattern with BL3 coming out so I don't want to start anything too time intensive.

I was playing Sniper Elite 4 which is free on the PSN this month. Not bad, not bad at all.
Awesome game. Happy to hear it was slotted for rotation so more can check it out; MP will surely see a temporary uptick but DM tourists will be in for a rude awakening, ha. Have been weighing giving the North African campaign of 1942 another spin as it never clicked with me as 4 had.

It's an all-or-nothing build. Godspeed, hunter.
I’m trying out all the builds, just finished a pure bloodtinge build that absolutely destroyed invaders. Pretty much one bullet with bone marrow ash kills an invader. Also WHY is there no improved performance with boost mode? (For the PS4 pro). The frame rate is pretty bad in comparison to the buttery smooth frame rate in dark souls 3.

Havent really played much in 2.5 months, was 40h in on TW3.

Gonna buy Astral chains, Link's awakening etc.

Really need to play DG, and Detroit from PS+ etc.

Same with me on Detroit but don't spread yourself too thin, ma dude. You were taking a hiatus on Wild Hunt before jumping into B&W expansion, yes?

abouty 35% into RDR2 and i feel like im over the hype, not feeling like i need to get back to it and keep playing in a rush. one thing that really annoys me is the bounty system, i can't have a fun rampage and start over again after i die, i now have a bill to pay and more people chasing me. kill my pursuers and the bill climbs higher. kill someone in the middle of nowhere and there's magically a witness to take care of

tried playing dissidia final fantasy nt last night after changing the controls to suit me. bought it ages ago but never bothered playing. quickly realised that hardly anyone plays it and the ones that do are super pro and got destroyed
