he comes off as a wigger douchebag in most of his movies
how could boogie nights be out of his comfort zone when it was like his second really big movie. FEAR being his real first big movie role.
He didn’t make enough movies to be out of a comfort zone at the time.
Well, if you want to nitpick some wording...
The "comfort zone" is within his acting ability as a whole, and not necessarily the movies he's been cast in. In short, he has limited range and works within it.
I doubt luck have anything to do with it, his past is too well known and he's even the portrait of what woke people declared war toI was aware of his racist assault on the Vietnamese American but didn't know of the racist stuff against the Black kids. Amazing isn't it, that he can get away with all that in today's 'woke' / 'cancel culture' world. Dude is super priviledged to be able to shug it off.
Terrorizing black children and severely beating a man unconscious with a big stick is far worse than just some mere stupid shit. We all did stupid shit when we were young like minor vandalism and petty theft, but the majority of us didn't aggressively harass people over the color of their skin and violently assault people with weapons.
I understand even the worst scumbag can be redeemed, but Wahlberg barely got a slap on the wrist given the severity of his crimes.
Oh well then do the American national sport and start a cancellation campaign. You will feel like s good american afterwards.
Haha! I am not big fan of the twitter mobs cancelling people. I don't even have a twitter account. I don't know. Maybe Wahlberg has paid for his crimes against humanity in ways unknown to the public. Maybe he will pay for it when his life is over. I don't know how it all works in the grand scheme of things.
That's an interesting take that I'd never thought of before. I always thought it was one of his best roles. There's only four in his career that standout to me. Boogie Nights, Fear, The Fighter and The Departed. FWIW, I noticed that John C. Reilly acted very similar to him in the movie, which I'm sure was by design. I always thought it was good acting from both of them, and really just a great ensemble cast. He’s a bad actor.
In fact his acting is so bad it’s one of the reasons Boogie Nights was so great. If you took him out of that role and added a well trained actor the movie wouldn’t have had the same appeal. His badness added to the character.
