Worldwide MMA Lounge: Non-Thread Worthy News & Multimedia Discussions v1

Japan is so weird. Like I didn’t think it was a big deal and I don’t think Floyd really cares either. So who the fuck was that?

Floyd was late to the arena and delayed the whole event, plus took his damn time to go out, he should be apologizing

Enjoyed the PbP discussion for ONE FC. Good group of people and @giovanni_ss is an outstanding laid back host. Great having these cards accessible on Amazon prime.

Stamp Fairtex once again shined. She’s amongst my favorite current fighters. Charismatic and a helluva dancer.

Love the way ONE mixes up cards with Muay Thai and MMA. A Muay Thai championship fight was extremely high level. My favorite fight of the weekend.

Though the submission grappling was like watching paint dry we still had fun banter throughout.

I was high as kite during the ONE FC submission match so my impressions are probably a bit off, but I thought I was stuck in a freakin' time loop. One guy was just butt-scooting on the ground, then the other guy would try to attack him only to get tied up in a chain of sub attempts he'd barely escape. And it kept happening over & over again. This was my first time watching a grappling match so I had no idea what to expect, but man, it was just weird.

No, your impressions were exactly what happened. Mikey would scoot around, Sousa would go in and try to get something going, Mikey would try some leg lock or heel hook, Sousa would get out and go back to standing up and try all over again

Since ONE FC is bringing high level kickboxing and Muay Thai to a new audience, I hope y'all don't mind if I put a few clips of my favourite fighters in here.

First up is Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, he's a former stadium champ with something like 400 fights who came out of retirement to compete in ONE. There's a pretty widespread notion that Muay Thai fighters have poor footwork and just stand in front of each other trading strikes, and sometimes this is true. But it often isn't, and well, just watch the slickness of Sam-A.

Next we have Sagetdao Petpayathai making the crossover from Muay Thai to MMA around 5 years ago. Sagetdao's another stadium champ who came out of retirement to fight in ONE, he was a clinch specialist in MT and you can see him putting those skills to work in this match.

And finally, Anissa Meksen, who is one of the best female kickboxers alive right now. She's just fun to watch, and you can tell when she gets pissed off.

I gotta admit, it was weird seeing one guy win a belt after all his unsuccessful submission attempts while the other one was trying to initiate something the whole time and was never really in danger. The casual in me thinks it was basically a draw, lol. Kinda underwhelming tbh but it wasn't that bad. It was a chess match with both seemingly look like on "autopilot" and automatic with their counter attacks and their grappling exchanges

Good stuff. I've seen a couple of Sam-A fights. Some of the most amazing displays of MT I've seen.

I think the first ONE PBP I've ever made featured Sam-A in the main event. I was still a regular that time and tried posting it at the UFC subforum coz 17 year old Victoria Lee was fighting. It was a Friday morning card that I thought I'd share. The heavies mods (Jack and Zeb) were very kind and even put it in the "sticky threads" in the heavies until the card was over, so that made the ONE pbps memorable for me.

Another (and probably the most) memorable ONE pbp I've made was the monumental ONE EMPOWER card where it featured the women's atomweight grand prix. It was originally a news thread that Jay (the admin) asked me if we could use it as the pbp for the event. It was the first time I thoroughly edited a thread and make it look like a proper pbp like how mods does it, and it was formally stickied in the heavies that time so it was pretty cool. It was a great event and I had fun along with several posters... ..then 12 days later, I was asked by admin if I'd like to help out as a mod. :)

So yeah, that's why ONE pbps are special to me, and I always like making them.

Great stuff aerius. Yeah keep posting these kinds of videos if you feel like it.

The Mekson video doesn’t work on my end. It says ‘video unavailable.’ I’d like to see more of her technique. In the ONE card the other night she was so dominant I almost felt sorry for her opponent. I wasn’t sure what you would say about her technique because you always see more than me with your more experienced eyes.

What do you all think of the upcoming Mekson vs. Stamp fight? Iirc it’s going to be a hybrid type of mixed rules type of fight. I’m a fan of Stamp Fairtex. I’m enjoying appreciating Mekson’s skills too.

Cool, I hadn’t known that gio.

I like how ONE mixes up the events with MMA and Muay Thai. While the grappling felt like ginger as a palette cleanser I still appreciate it in a meal of combination sushi.

I always have fun in the PbP. It’s a solid group of posters.

Continuing with the ONE Muay Thai theme, I think a good number of us have seen Superlek literally kicking the crap out of his opponents in ONE, but did you know that he had a couple fights against Sam-A early in his career? This one's from about 9 years ago when Sam-A was on the tail end of his prime and Superlek was a young champion on the rise. As is traditional in Thai stadiums, it's a slow first round after which things get fun, and rounds 3 & 4 are where they really try to kill each other.

There's a bunch of Meksen's fights on Youtube, I'm not sure where you live but you should be able to find one that plays unless the 'tube really hates you. Most of her fights are pretty good and she shows most of her key skills in them.

As for her fight with Stamp, the standup round is likely going to be a blowout for Meksen. Stamp doesn't have the speed to keep up or the defence to avoid the punches once Meksen starts throwing longer combos. The MMA round is a complete mystery, no one knows what kind of training Anissa's done or how good she is. All we know is there's photos of her with Valentina, Petr Yan, and Fiziev over at Tiger Muay Thai, we don't know if they even trained MMA or just kickboxed.

David Martínez retained the Combate Global BW title defeating Axel Osuna by a fourth round TKO.
