Have you thought about scaling back for a bit and just making some plays without research? I haven't watched tape for years. My guess is that you may find your results aren't much better with watching tape.

Interesting theory. I always watch tape and find i hardly ever change from my gut instinct after watching tape (therefore gut seems pretty accurate). It did save me from betting on Silva last card though my recollection of him was really wrong which i quickly found out after watching a few fights and i promptly switched to Saggo!

I think that for 95% of the people out there watching tape will improve their overall profit, but there is a decision to make when it comes to time consumption vs potential for increased profitability. At a certain point it comes down to the law of diminishing returns, where it takes an extra 90% of your time to yield 10% more profit. In many cases, the extra time it takes to do "proper" research may very well not be worth it. I guess it depends on the case, but for someone trying to get a minor edge by paying special attention to the smaller details in a certain stylistic matchup, it seems like watching tape is pretty much a necessity. I'm sure lots of people can do pretty well just going off memory and picking certain spots on each card though, and it would be a lot less time consuming.

$150/weekend with, what, 10-20-30 hours of cumulative research? Might as well work at McDonalds...I know exactly what he is grappling with. It's the time-sink, not so much the money.

i think most of my picks were actually right, just i put the most money on the ones i got wrong! if i had gone harder on bosse and less so on valerie i would have made a killing. oh well i have literally just had the hottest streak of my gambling career, had to end eventually. cut a lot of my losses with baseball and soccer so should still be in the profits after my next event.

No, but think about it. Research = posting and reading on here or other forums, watching tape, watching interviews, listening to podcasts, reading articles mmajunkie/sherdog/bloodyelbow/et al, and finally watching the actual event (that's 6 hours right there).

    30 hours is an underestimate.

I'd never have time to watch too much footage, would say tape but my VHS died 15 years ago ;)
Although with the lesser known fighters, I just can't remember their fights that well and need refreshing sometimes in case I'm mistaken with who I'm actually picking.
