Guitar Players

To all the metal dudes, do you think blues/rock guitars look lame? Teles, hollow bodies, etc. Les Pauls/SGs seem to be in the middle somewhere, but i can't stand the look of most guitars typically used by metal players (ibanez, esp, schecter, etc). I have to imagine it's the same on the other side.

Interesting question. I really don't care for the schecters that everyone is so into. I don't care for all the flame maple on every guitar I see either.

Give me a strat or tele any day.

It can be hit or miss playing with people who are self taught. I took some theory lessons when I was a kid so I can usually figure out what most people are playing, regardless of what instrument they are playing. I played bass in one band though and the guitarist was a kid I knew who was awesome when he was just jamming with me and the drummer. But we added a keyboard player and a sax player and that was a pain in the ass. Anytime the keyboard player brought in an idea, we had to literally work it out note for note, one note at a time with the guitar player. It took us days to just break down a song well enough for him to get through it.
If you heard that kid just jamming on his own though, you'd think he was an incredible talent.

I can relate. I'm not amazing, but I'm definitely going to shine more in a single guitar band. I like real simple drums and then let me play my lick-filled rhythms.

I hated strumming in time with fancy drum parts and matching what the other guitarist was doing. I can do it, but i found myself getting really bored.

Not at all. I love 'em, but I also like blues.

I might be mistaken, but most guys who like guitars don't affirmatively dislike many guitars at all. They have preferences, but you don't usually run into guys who think a PRS looks awesome, but a Telecaster sucks, and an Ibanez .... most people get the different aesthetics.

I don't like the look of teles. Never have. I obviously like Strats and hollow bodies though! How do you feel about a guitar like a Strandberg or a Kiesel that don't have the traditional headstock? I'd love to have one of those.

That's me lol. I love PRS but not a Tele.

Teles are awesome.

Alot of people hate on my blues guitars because I do 12 fret no cutaway semi-hollows and they can't play way up for shitty solos. Lol

That's a unique guitar, what is it?

I would think the opposite, but that's why i asked. Plenty of guitars i don't like, especially when we're talking about aesthetics. I don't think I've ever seen a BC Rich that i wouldn't call an abomination. Never liked PRS.

Not for me.

If I'm getting wild, i like the Firebird or the National map guitar. Rickenbackers.

Most blues guys I know play on Les Paul standards, not much of a difference between those and ESP Eclipses - visually anyways seeing that Eclipses are modeled after them to an extent.

As far as SG's are concerned id say they are huge in the metal world, especially with 'Doom' bands.

SG, Elcipse and Les Pauls are pretty much what I play -was never a fan of Fenders. I like some Shecters but have never owned one, probably never will with all the shit I already own anyways.

I use an SG myself, but i would replace it with a fender or gretsch in a heartbeat if i were in a band.

Or maybe something like a Reverend since no one plays them and they look bitchin'.

As for Hollow Body's -I like them just fine enough. Tele's I'm not at all big on tho, Strats neither -but as I already mentioned I'm not a big Fender guy in general.

I dig SG's, and Les Paul body style guitars. Own plenty of both, love playing them.

Strats and teles are the most versatile guitars IMO. There's very little you can't do with a strat or tele. Fender got it right with those 2 guitars. That's why they've barely changed in over 50 years.

Best amps too
