Main event is a pick'em, strong arguments on both sides, clear path to victories on both sides. This however will not be a close fight, one guy is going to enforce his will over the other. Either Johnson lands a fight ending shot early and makes it looks easy or Cormier imposes his will and dominates Johnson in the grappling.
The first fight was not close, Johnson had a some moments in the 1st round but after that it was all DC. Some guys are just bad match ups for other guys. DC's style is hard for Johnson to deal with, DC exposed Johnson's weaknesses last fight. Johnson doesn't wanna grapple, he's outmatched in that area, it drains his energy. Johnson is a quitter, he quit last time.
But people will say "Cormier is old, Cormier is injured, Cormier is past his prime" all may be true but that doesn't mean he's going to lose. Has Johnson improved since the first fight? I would say yes, still the same overall fighter but more polished.
Something people may forget is that their 1st fight was actually short notice for DC, he had less than a month to prepare, Johnson had a full camp. Still Cormier's conditioning was far superior in the 1st fight, I expect nothing less in the 2nd. Johnson doesn't have bad conditioning IMO, Cormier was just able to ware Johnson down in the grappling by making Johnson constantly carry his weight and work from bottom. Anytime there is a grappling exchange in this fight it will be benefit Cormier.
Cormier is a winner, he only has one loss and that was against the GOAT. I think Cormier deserves to be the favourite, I think we get a similar fight to the 1st one, I think Johnson will have his moments early but the longer it goes the more it favours Cormier. Johnson will eventually succumb to the pressure and quit again, probably by giving his back up like always.
The gap may have tightened but they are essentially the same fighters they were the 1st time they met. Johnson could land and win but I don't think it's likely, Cormier is the worst stylistic match for Johnson at 205.
Sharp money is on Cormier
