But Jones himself has said he can't jump or run all that fast. Two things right at the top of the list when it comes to NFL combine (since you arbitrarily chose that as the determinant as to what is "athletic").

"Elite grappling" means you need athletic ability. At the level he's competing at, you don't win just on technique if the other guys are that much better athletes than you are. Again, this isn't UFC 1 where Dan Severn had no damn clue what a triangle choke is. Everyone trains grappling now and knows what bjj is.
My point is just that Maia is not an elite athlete in the UFC WW division, he's 40 years old and he's not physically gifted. Jake Shields is another guy that is a terrible athlete but also an elite grappler/fighter. Maia doesn't need to be a great athlete, his style is very effective as it is, just won't be effective against Masvidal.

I guess we are getting into semantics and subjectivity here. He went from being "subpar" to now just "not elite". The problem you have is that you are using your opinion on what determines athleticism as the cut and dry criteria, when it's a subjective thing.

Doing what Maia does to guys takes a ton of athletic ability, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

He is 100% subpar compared to the rest of the UFC WW division

You're really going overboard here. Maia isn't athletic if we're using the consensus definition of athletic. I'd bet money that my vertical is higher than his and I'm not close to being an elite athlete. Technique and skill doesn't apply to pure athleticism, which is what he's obviously referring to

Maia is not an explosive athlete, anyone can see that. Maia is not fast twitch.

But it doesn't really matter because Maia is a lifelong grappler with lifelong grappler strength. I mean, so long as he sticks to grappling he's pretty successful cagefighter.

You missed the point. I agree w what you're saying, they're just arguing about whether he's an elite/above average athlete or not. But just to address what you said, fast twitch isnt the only requirement to being an elite athlete. Pretty sure all those marathon runners and triathletes can be considered elite athletes as well. But Maia has shown to gas too so that's out the window lol

That was a while ago, at MW I think. Could be a conditioning issue but yeah he has gassed hard in the past.

If anything Maia would be a strength athlete, he can probably bearhug the fuck out of people.

Hes gassed at ww. See laflare and rory fights. Even the brown fight he was looking tired by r3.

I remember Maia getting sloppy in the 3rd of the Brown fight & mostly mistakes from Brown ended up back on the mat? If you like Mas in this fight play the R3 prop and/or wait to live-bet. Whittaker still had magnificent odds after stuffing Jacare TD. I like Maia to win this but i think a safer strategy betting Mas is playing it live. I don't think he gets finished inside 60 seconds but it'd be good to see if he keeps it upright even that long...

Just watched a lot of tape on Skelly vs Knight. Here's my notes.

This is an interesting fight, I was impressed by Skelly, but I definitly like Knight much more here. Skelly's tough and is constantly improving, obviously very efficient at the grinder style of fighting, very solid chokes and nice ground defense as well. He's good at using sub threats to get out of bad spots. He does have power in his hands as well. His movement is improving every fight, but still not quite there yet. He also does seem to gas a little earlier then i'd like. Not the fastest guy on the feet. I find the only time Skelly is "controlling" the pace of a fight, is when he is completely successful at implementing his game plan. When he is not getting easy takedowns, I find he's prone to getting controlled.

Knight's first fight against Kawajiri was not impressive, he seemed eager to try and win with the rubberguard and basically got blanketed and controlled the whole fight. But since then he's looked outstanding. Extremly aggresive style, very nice solid striking. Always agressive, even if it's the third round and he is dead tired. His ground game is sick, very effective on the ground offensively and defensively. Only con is he's been takendown quite a bit in a few fights. He's also hittable, but has a rock solid chin, and often returns with a stronger punch.

Overall, I don't think it will be to easy, but this is Knights fight to lose. Knight wins standing up for sure, he's got a solid pace and attack, and I haven't been to impressed with Skelly's overall movement. Knight was able to land solid shots on the very fluid Caceres. I find Skelly's only method to victory is grinding out a win with takedowns and top control like Kawijiri did... but I don't see that happening. I think Knight is to tough and skilled on defense to allow that to happen. So I think we'll see a lot of this fight standing, and Knight definitely has the edge here. Chaz could knock him out, he has solid power, they both fought Alers and though I thought overall Knight looked more impressive, Chaz did knock out Alers. Also Chaz seems very motivated and constantly improving, but I feel that way about Knight too.
Conclusion: Knight will win. Hard to say wether it will be by decision or if he gets the finish, I think his aggresive style will be tough for Skelly.

Haven't looked at the odds but I wouldn't bet Skelly anything under +240.

Edit: also note, we saw Skelly fight another fighter with an agressive style in Elkins, and he looked like shit.

I really believe Knight will win by SUB but will safely bet Knight to win....

I wouldn't be surprised if Knight wins by SUB.
Skelly gasses pretty badly, so a late sub wouldn't be unexpected.

Maia propably isnt the most athletic guy in terms of explosiveness but I think he could be on of the strongest guy in the division

Just a sidenote that Knight fought Kawajiri on really short notice. Kawajiri is a very very strong grappler. Knight has improved a lot since his debut. I think he will be a force soon.

8-5-1 on my expert underdog plays, yes I took an L last event, it is what is it, it happens but I'm still the underdog king and I'll prove it again. No one plays these dogs like myself, you know that. Edgy underdog plays is what I'm known for and that is what you will get.

I am 14-7-1 on my underdog plays for the last year, and your bragging about a 8-5-1? Get out of here with your own ass kissing.

SMH, sure you are lol. IIRC HeDucking exposed you as a rook bettor, you can change that though, all you gotta do is post edgy winning underdog plays, I haven't seen you post any winners yet so lets change that. #StopGuessingStartWinning #DontMessWithSuccess

Shut it, I posted all my shit a few months ago when you and your boyfriend HeDucking tried to gang up on me, and once I posted my results all you two could say is, "oh man your trigger" I can go dig that up again if you like.

Keep kissing your own ass bro, you do a good job of it.
