Prime BJ Penn is a better fighter than Gaethje, but can he handle the pressure ?

Gaethje wins
Hits to hard and ain’t get taken down
Poirier and Alvarez both took Gaethje down, what makes you think Penn, a far superior wrestler, wouldn't be able to do it?

To answer your question TS, yes he can. The Penn that fought Kenny and Diego had 5 round cardio (something we'd hardly ever seen from him) and could finish Gaethje on the feet or on the mat.

Gaethje would have BJ quitting on the stool end of round 1.

Well I have seen Guillard, Firmino, Michael Johnson, Eddie and Poirier giving serious problems to Gaethje so... I dont see how prime BJ doesnt.

Post GSP Penn quits in the stool in the second. He was never the same after that GSP beating.

BJ had fast hands like a decade ago.
But iif it was that BJ at his natural weight class, I'd love to see it.

This is getting outrageous, Justin can’t even overcome Dustin (a contender) nor Alvarez (an out of prime former champion who took a huge loss to cap off his downfall)

Justin cannot himself maintain a top contender yet he’s in the same sentence as prime Bj Penn after beating a very beatable journeyman Barboza

Love me some BJ ;)

….butttt, BJ is the most overhyped "legend" out there. Any form of BJ doesn't beat Gaethje. Old guard vs new guard.

I love Gaethje, but prime Penn rapes and murders him, then disposes of his corpse.

When exactly is prime BJ Penn? Was it after his earth shattering 4 fight win streak? The literal - longest streak of his career. Yes, he never managed more than 4 wins in a row. BJ has always had a talent but shit - the man knows how to lose.

I've always felt BJ is up there as probably the most overrated of all time. Less so now thankfully.

Penn would be licking GayCheeses blood from his gloves after choking the life outta him. Justin has been rocked in any fight against a decent boxer and BJ was one of the best boxers in mma

What made Penn so compelling is that he wasn't afraid to lose.

Which is why he constantly fought welterweights, heavyweights whatever, all while being a natural featherweight. Prime BJ Penn is a real thing, and watching his fights in the early and middle part of his career you can see it. I do agree that Prime Penn is overhyped. I wouldn't even say he's the LW GOAT or anything like that. He was a brilliant, mad, and tragically unfocused fighter.

Poor BJ......He now is always been compare to his " Prime"......because he is been that bad in his last like 8 fights.....

Will BJ defeat Connor in his Prime? Will he still be a champ in his prime? Will he had defeated Jon Jones in his prime?.......

BJ has done great things in the sport......But he is done....like really done...like 8 fights ago....period....

I would call Barboza way more than a journeyman caliber of fighter but other than that, I totally agree with your post
