At UFC 238, Tony Ferguson can become the lightweight GOAT

He has to beat Khabib. So far Khabib has pulled ahead of him by beating one of the other three, Conor.

He is up there among the greats but he needs that W over Khabib to have a strong case to be the all time LW GOAT

Ferg has to beat Khabib to lay claim to LW GOAT.

Khabib has to beat Ferg to lay claim to LW GOAT.

Hopefully they both win their next fights and we finally get to see that fight.
I think this is a pretty solid take.

Was Conor ever really in their realm though? To be honest?

Not necessarily. But you can’t argue that at one point they were the three kings of the lightweight division in terms of public perception. Three belt holders, meaning that none of them were undisputed.

I think Porier would box Tony up.

Poirier would probably land good shots early, but wilt late. The difference between Tony and Max is that while both are attrition fighters, Tony is bigger and does more damage. Tony also has the grappling threat (probably not through traditional TD's but through his unorthodox way he forces scrambles, his front headlock, etc.).

I will say that I give Dustin a better chance vs Tony after seeing how composed he was vs Max's pressure. I just think the difference is that he could walk through whatever Max landed. Tony may not have huge one-shot KO power, but he does more damage than Max. People talked about how damaged that Ortega was after fighting Max, but that's EVERYONE that fights Tony.

My back hurts just watching this

Khabib is LW GOAT, he beat MJ and Conor nobody else can make that claim or beat anyone Khabib lost to. MMA math always works on undefeated champions.

Do you guys see Tony getting it done? If he wins impressively, is he the GOAT at LW? If not, what else must he do? Simply defeat Khabib or go on a dominant reign with the belt?

he cant be the goat when he lsot to a power cord.

Ugh. Kevin lee depresses me so much. He has so much potential with his top game and striking. He needs to bail out of the takedowns against the cage when they aren’t working and preserve his energy more like Romero does.

Tony is lucky as hell he didn't lose to Vannata or Pettis he was hurt bad in those fights also his dec. over Castillo could of gone either way

1A. Khabib
1B. Ferguson
2. Benson Hendo
3. BJ
4. Frankie

They need to fight. If they don't fight soon this planet should just be obliterated

<{fry}>
How do you rank Frankie below BJ? He has a better LW record and beat Penn 3 times...
Lmao

First fight is universally accepted as a robbery and Penn fighting like a cold body in every fight after that one doesnt undo what he did before. That fight largely is what destroyed BJ and caused his 13 fight losing streak hes riding

He went up a division and finished an ultra dominant champ at WW. He went head to head with z young GSP. He absolutely besmirched and finished Gomi when Gomi was fucking GOMI

Edgar is a decisionator

He and Khabib have claims now and either winning without fighting the other wouldn't change that. Even one beating the other might not.

Tony beating Cerrone would make the Tony argument easier and the Khabib one harder though. Big argument against Khabib is his low level of competition and Tony beating Cerrone would make the superiority of Tony's opponents even more clear.

First fight is universally accepted as a robbery
<{cruzshake}>

Lol, no it isn't. A bunch of people do think Penn won that fight, but it was really close.
Edgar dominated Penn in the following rematches anyways. Make any excuses you want for that, it happened. It is delusional to rank Penn above Frankie.

Win over Poirer is bigger than a win over Cowboy.

it also depends how they look in each fight. Tony squeaking by with a split isn't going to help his stock much if Khabib ragdolls Poirier.

A win there doesnt yet make him GOAT.

Tony is probably the most hittable fighter on the roster. He either just doesn't care or has the same stand up coach as Rockhold.

Porier would deal massive damage before attrition and cardio would come into play.

But let's see how Tony deals with a Cowboy HK. He can deal with that then i don't know anyone who might be able to put his lights out.
