Green Bay Packers 2019: How bad can it get?

The Packers recent moves are leaving them in a vulnerable financial position.

Profit from operations fell from $34 million a year ago to just $724,000 for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2019, a decline of 98%. While revenues increased a healthy $23 million (5%), expenses grew at a substantially greater rate.

They need the coaching changes and free agent moves to pay off this season and go deep into the playoffs with home games.

Even if they were taking losses every year I don't think it matters much as long as the NFL is making money as a whole.

After 2020 the players union will be negotiating again and the NFL might not be making as much money. The Packers share NFL revenue evenly with all teams. The top selling jerseys in the Packer Pro Shop where the Packers keep all of the profits were Rodgers, Matthews, Cobb and Adams. With 2 of them gone and no big names to step up and a bad season, the Pro Shop revenues are down. The big hits from the new contracts will even out as will paying a coach who no longer coaches but it makes the near future uncertain. Another bad season could really hurt.

well dang I guess all the disgustingly overpaid and underworked exec's will have to take a pay cut. poor them. I cant imagine how difficult it will be living on a quarter million a month.

man if this defense can stay healthy they are going to be a fucking wrecking ball. Martinez and fakrell, rashan gary, prestin smith, zadarius smith, Kenny clark, Lowry, montravius, king, Zaire, amos, savage.

Yeah i agree. The CB position is still spotty but the massive upgrade in talent at S will be a huge help

I'm pretty hyped about what the defense can do. Haven't said that in forever

Kevin King, please stay healthy. That would be great.

As for Daniels, I will miss him, but Gute knows what this team needs.

Bad feeling about this cut. Yes Daniels had a big price tag, but he was a great player and they had to have thought they could pay him when they signed A Amos and the Smiths. Must have been something new that came up. I hope he doesn't end up wrecking our playoff hopes as a member of the Rams or Seahawks or whatever.

I would really hate if Pettine/LaFleur got sick of his personality and that motivated this cut, too. Fuck.

Man that’s depressing about Daniels. He was my favorite player on the defense. I knew he would be gone after the season because they have to extend Clark and Lowry just got an extension but didn’t expect now.

The reasoning probably boils down to a couple things. Lot of peeps say he doesn’t really fit in their defensive scheme, he’s 30 and coming off injury and making a lot of money. They have a ton of depth, someone will be left out

Idk I’m just not really liking the timing of this. Does this make the team better? Also re: depth, injuries happen. Someone will sign him very soon

Regarding the timing, i guess they tried hard to trade him and nobody was interested

30yo coming off a foot injury... maybe i shouldn't be surprised

And the age "limit" on interior d-linemen that stay healthy is around 31-32.

I wish they could have tried to re-work it and keep him or trade him to a contender for a pick or something but I also understand letting him go. That 8mil they save is going straight to Kenny Clark and potentially Blake as Blake's contract is done after this year as well.

Yeah apparently Gute tried to trade him but all talks broke down, I guess the other GMs aren't stupid either and knew the cut was coming lol. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions to set up the future which is what Gute did here. Pettine obviously thinks he can do without him, injury concerns, age...it is what it is.

The dude was awesome though and I 100% will miss seeing him out there. Still, this defense does still kind of excite me.

I'm excited for the defense as well, Gute pretty much did what I wanted for the draft, just in a little different way with the Gary pick and trading up for Savage. King has to stay healthy, though. Also have to hope that the Smiths work out.

Can't wait for people to overreact to the Bears game like crazy, no matter which way it goes. :D
