2) You're operating from a position of incredible hubris. Yes USA is the biggest single market... but it's already smaller than the EU zone and China itself is right there too.

Regardless.. the entire global market is exponentially larger than the US market on its own.

If you're concerned about core industrial technology and China's propensity to steal intellectual property and trade secrets, the obvious move would be implement export controls and choke off access to these firms (one is HDQ in the Netherlands, the other Japan obviously). The materials, machinery, equipment, software and services expertise can't be remotely adequately sourced from elsewhere. They literally, physically can't raise a domestic semiconductor industry and manufacture them if they're cut off.

Hmm the total gdp of the Eu is less than America
Plus you can possibly subtract England 2.6 from that number soon

They can get oil from Iran and Russia now.

They have no reason to respect US sanctions.

The difference in scale in GDP between the US and EU zone is less than 1%.

Again, any single market is still smaller than the global market China has access to.

Iran cant supply the oil they need and Russia is busy supplying the EU and has openly said that they need investment in the industry.

Basically Russia would have to divert oil from Europe to feed China and the little that Iran could spare needs to be at market rate - ie @ $5-9 higher than they pay US companies.


EDIT- its a sign of desparation that China went after oil. They're hoping to send the US into recession and get a democrat elected
 
The thing is, we never should have subsidized Chinas growth, or allowed their military expansion.

We ought to arm the motherfuck out of Japan and SK even more. Go full court press on these assholes. Destroy any of their asset/debt/land deals they love making. End their ability to produce semiconductors. Crush them. Push them back in time several generations.

I'm sure the economy will slow, I'm sure some will suffer, but if we don't do this now it will only be that much more painful once we do, if any politicians in the future even have the stomach for it.

And are you saying that Europe would act against our interest while not finding their military and relying on us to protect them?
