UFN 157 on ESPN+ 15 Andrade vs Zhang

Luke is an elitist when it comes to lifting. He fancies himself an expert and barring some olympic caliber perfect form, he was gonna trash Trump based on the fact he dislikes his politics.

This is coming from someone who generally finds Luke's radio show entertaining too. He's pompous but as long as you go in with your eyes open to that you can get some good laughs and entertainment from it.

One thing though that drives me nuts is how he tries to bullshit his way through breaking down fighters that he hasn't seen much of or knows nothing about. Just admit you are spread too thin to be able to know about every prelim fighter and move on. Incant count how many times I've been listening and heard him doing predictions and say something like "Well fighter X has better wrestling so I'll go with him" when the reality is that fighter Y is by far the better wrestler and fighter X is a kickboxer who's desperate to keep the fight standing. You have a national radio show man, don't make up bullshit analysis just because you have to fill air time while doing predictions.

I think most people go through that phase when they get serious into lifting. I'm sure that I was an elitist for a time with it as well. The longer that you are in it and the stronger that you get, you realize a lot of these criticisms really don't amount to shit. I mean what is he pulling here? 375 lbs? I'd say most guys pulling sub 400 are going to have issues with their form. The back rounding at the start is concerning, but it's from the start of the lift (still an obvious issue). I'd have much more of an issue with someone in a good start position that rounds on the initial pull. Honestly, he could have just been excited to pull the PR and didn't set up right, but you can tell the strength is there. Most beginners, and even intermediates, have breakdown on PRs.

Is Luke Thomas really that strong of a lifter himself? I'm assuming he is mid to upper 200 lbs. I don't see his lifting anywhere, but I see somewhere that he says he deadlifts above 500 lbs. That should honestly be expected and I'd hope he's pulling 600+. I can't find his squat numbers anywhere. I know a lot of tall guys have issues with squats. You can't really find his lifting anywhere, which is ironic considering how much he talks about it. I'd assume if he was really putting up solid #s, it would be out there.

I honestly can't speak to it much. I stopped lifting after college, I was burned out because they expected us to live in the weight room. This was 20+ years ago.

I know there are health benefits galore to strength training but the couple times I tried to get back in the routine I couldn't make it stick.

So far I've avoided the dadbod with just pushups, some core stuff, and running. So far...

So what the hell time does this start? Main card at 3 am eastern time? So prelims at like 11 pm tonight eastern time?

What a derailment lol.

"How is the #gamblenati at betting?"

"I hate Luke Thomas!"

"Do you even lift bro?"

Best gif I've made so far.

This type of shit doesn't happen on good cards that start at normal hours LOL.

As a good friend of mine, who runs a comedy fitness channel (yes, you read that right) that has 4 times the Youtube audience Luke Thomas does, would say, his deadlift PR is actually 0.

No footage of your lifts, no PR.

I wouldn't be surprised if Luke's actual deadlift PR is in the 300s. Remember, SJWs always lie, and Luke is nothing if not a SJW.

Same way that he bullshits and lies about prelim fighters he has never watched.

I go through bouts of laziness where I'm only powerlifting once a week or something and instead just do calisthenics (push-ups, hundreds of squats, sit-ups, rounds of shadow boxing) a lot, but I still haven't quit the weight room yet, at 32. Would definitely recommend going back there.

Alas, at my height and weight, I think I've already succumbed to a dadbod of sorts.

Is anyone actually really confident in any of there picks? Personally I am not, I'm fairly sure Jessica Andrade will win but other than that... Part of me is even thinking that maybe Evolev could be a total hype job and end up like Naurdiev, huge favourite based off not much who gets exposed...
Tape KHADIS IBRAGIMOV and tell me that +200 on the other side doesn't look like a gift. Movement and striking defense looks terrible, plodding around swinging blind hooks until he can find some kind of clinch/grappling exchange. His record looks padded and his opponents look terrible, winning one of his recent bouts due to a DQ rope grab.... His last opponent looked like he'd never seen a wrestling mat trying to explode out of the bottom with only a strong bridge and no hip work until he got finished. Couldn't find a whole lot on Jung. From what I did see he can throw straight punches/combinations work a clinch and defend takedowns. Not unloading on this but I feel this should be alot closer to evens possibly even favoring Jung. So looking more skilled/experienced than his opponent and sporting a +2XX price tag I couldn't pass this one up. Shout out to an unnamed sherbro for highlighting this bout, you probably know who you are.

With over 8 million youtube subscribers I'm sure the Athlean-X channel is no secret. If ya haven't checked it out though I'd highly recommend Jeff's channel. Lot of good technical and fitness advice and lots of great 5-10 minute calisthenic videos. Personally I love his ab challenges, not too long and very effective.

Jeff is...okay. What he says is all reasonable enough, and he obviously has genuine knowledge of exercise physiology, but I remember trying out a certain movement he recommended to rehab a rotator cuff injury, and it was useless at best.

I got way more benefit from looking up various auxiliary exercises for the rotator cuffs on Exrx and other places and adding 2 of them that looked useful to the days where I bench. No injuries or even the mildest pain since then.

Honestly, I think following some standard strength/hypertrophy programs and making sure you have proper form (easier than ever nowadays with the countless videos out there) is all you need.

Yeah you're right finding what works for you is the main thing. Jeff's a favorite of mine after I used a few of his videos to fix a painful posture issue in my left shoulder blade. Gotta love all the free videos online especially the fights, makes ya wonder how people capped back in the day.

What two exercises do you do for your rotator cuff? I'm having a problem with my left shoulder at the moment and stretching out and warming up are helping but not curing.

Anyone else have a gut feeling that Krantz is just going to chew up and stop the super basic, stops punches with his face Kenan?

His last fight against the feather fisted Morono was comical... Morono lands about 50 flush right hands over the top in the first with kenan refusing to use a proper guard to block punches, but morono doesn't properly turn over a single one of them and he still rattles and busts up the eye face and mouth of Kenan.

Just a joke that a UFC level guy has a guard like Songs. Morono isn't exactly muhammed ali on the feet, he's quite basic but he was lighting Kenan up like something out of a cartoon.

Yeah, I'll most likely just end up putting some money on fight doesn't go the distance @ -180

There's a lot of flaws in his videos, of course knows much more than me about exercises. But 75% of his videos are just click baity thumbnails and, telling you you're doing it wrong with a big obtuse red X, much like what you seen on Instagram if you follow any sort of health/lifting tags or pages. "if you do pushup this way you're a dumbfuck" kind of stuff. Very knowledgeable, he just seems like a knob to me.

Out of curiosity, what exercises antagonise your rotator cufff? I've heard a few people have similar issues from various lateral raise movements but doing it straight arm instead of bent.
