Keyboard Jockey Attempts Two AR-15 Builds

Anyone running fixed sights on an AR pistol? Thinking of ditching my RDS and going with some kind of fixed tritium sight set.

I prefer a dot.

If I was going to use fixed sights only it would be scalarworks. Tooless repeatable adjustments, holds zero, rear aperture doesn't change zero going from fine to wide, fine front sight post. They don't have tritium but I find tritium useless with a weapon light anyway.

13.0 Mini-recce isn't cycling right. Sprinco spring may be the issue, it measures longer then a normal A5 spring by a fair margin and takes significantly more force to charge the weapon. Next time I shoot it I'll run a stock spring and see.

A5 spring is a standard rifle length spring isn't it? The green springco is longer than that?

What's your reasoning?
I just find iron sights to be very natural and intuitive for me. Last summer, I shot a couple 3 gun events, and in one of them, I ran with iron sights only and I felt like I was getting on target faster, especially at near targets.

I’m still rocking a carry handle even though I have an Aimpoint PRO.

For pistols, which are primarily defensive (and close-quarter), I agree on irons. Sights are barely used when the shooting starts so why add expense, weight, and shit that potentially obscures the target.

And since it's and AR, you can easily hit shit out to 100 yards.

Got the gun back from cerakote last night, assembled it and took it out this morning. Got it zeroed at 100. I really like that mini acog, clean glass, great reticle. I'm really happy with how it all turned out. Only put 100 rounds through it, worked flawlessly. 4 o'clock ejection, very soft and smooth operation. I'm probably going to form 1 this, the sba3 is nice for a brace but it's not as good as a stock. Also my phone makes the colors appear lighter than they are. The grey and light grey are darker in person. My phone damn near makes that light grey look white.

Reason I only shot 100 rounds with it I spent a lot of time shooting my CZ Scorpion sbr and a couple pistols. It was getting hot as hell out and I was pretty much over it at that point.

CZ Scorpion is badass, I got that zeroed at 25, might rezero at a further distance at another time but I probably put 300 rounds through it. It's smoother and softer shooting than I anticipated, Wolfman sounds great, the action is seems louder than the gun, hearing brass hit the ground is always cool.

Would love to try out that Scorpion.

Y'all ever seen optimized carrier key screws? They've gotten rave reviews on M4C and are only about $6.

Sionics BCGs have them for $125 on Primary Arms.

Sounds like the proverbial solution seeking a problem. Maybe I don't shoot enough to have issues with carrier keys.

Yes,

https://www.forwardcontrolsdesign.com/OCKS_p_149.html

I've been using some forward controls lower and upper components for my last couple builds.

Personally I wouldn't swap anything I have with them but I do see it as an extra step of fail proofing. But proper staking has lasted 10's of thousands of rounds on bcgs. Forward controls basically over builds everything. Sionics makes high quality stuff if you were interested in buying it.

Got a heckuva deal on a Franklin Armory complete lower with a BFS III and SBA3 brace . . . wholesale price was awesome.
