If Twitter bans Trump he’ll instantly re-reg as Dorgnald Tronk and start furiously shitposting just like people in the WR do. They’ll have to IP ban him to keep him out.

They crossed the line by (implied) criticism of the gov't. Used to be that we all agreed that people should be able to do that, but today's right openly opposes free speech as it has traditionally been defined (they redefine it to mean that their political opponents should be silenced).
 
Twitter should ban Trump.

They are a private company. Can do whatever they want with their platform. That's the beauty of a free market.

So they should just go all in and ban Trumps as for the lolz.

The problem is that posting crazy theories and trying to be shocking is only fun for these people if they have normal, sane people to react to it. Basically no one likes spending time with right-wing nutters--not even other right-wing nutters.

How is fact checking a stretch? They arent allowed to post things on their own platform? Like posting that someone is lying.

Are they not a platform because they criticize the government? That seems pretty stupid. If Twitter used an official account to say Adam schiff looks like dogshit it wouldn't change that they are a platform.

Platforms shouldn't be editorializing anything. That is a publisher function.

I don't care if it was done for the wrong reasons. It is an important step in preventing corporate overreach into matters of speech.

I'm pretty sure if I build a platform myself I get to fuckin say what the terms of use are.

I think you're missing the point. Speech isn't a gift that the government grants as long as you don't criticize them. For those of us who believe in free speech, the idea that the gov't needs to give you some special designation to have it is abhorrent.

Exactly. And no one is suggesting otherwise. But if you have a site like a newspaper, you could be liable for libelous stories you print. If you have a site that is a neutral forum, you won't be held liable for comments users make on it, even if they are libelous.
 
Well these social media companies are indeed stifling free speech. I think that's the key issue.

True but when Trump says injecting disinfectant could help your body resist Covid-19 and be proven to be factually false, and Trump denied that he ever said it in that context when video proves he did, he shouldn't go into a hissy fit when everyone and their mom calls him for his bullshit.

Much like the position you’re in now. I doubt you enjoy Biden being the nominee, he can’t even speak a full sentence. But you’re still gonna have to vote for him.

The slight difference of course, is Joe Biden is going to lose in November.
