@Foppa21 Nice! I just saw that the will be streaming on youtube tonight!
Edit: Missed it, they actually started at 17:30 EST.
424 Hands today: +$218,292.78 for Doug.
Total thus far: 624 hands +$101,792.78 for Doug.
ooooof..
Doug Polk spanked Negreanu for another $166,239...
I am a big fan of Doug Polk. I hope he stays after his 1v1 faceoff.
You can just follow Doug's channel as they stream it live (10 mins lag).
Doug is the better HU player. Unless he runs terrible he should win.
Daniel's out of his element. He's probably a better player in cash games and tournaments but HU is right in Doug's wheelhouse.Yeah I think that's been the growing consensus. 4:1 odds being laid for Daniel ain't great reading.

I haven't really followed much poker in the last 5 odd years or so. I've heard of Doug and know of him as a online NLHU player (obviously with 3 bracelets as well lol).
I'm still in the time warp of Ivey, Dwan, Negreanu et al. Heck anyone Full Tilt could try to shove down our throats
Dan is not out of his element. He's simply completely outclassed by Doug. Doug was known as the very best HUNL player on the planet . He couldn't find anyone to play against him at one point because he would trounce everyone. I think he did lose to Phil Helmuth once but one session isn't enough - that could be attributed to luck. Over a long period of time he'll make adjustments and bulldozer over people.
That's the point.
Doug is a specialist in specifically no-limit holdem, heads up, online, multi tabling........almost exactly the opposite to Negreanu's poker strengths.
Doug challenging Daniel to this format was cowardly and Daniel accepting was idiotic.
Would be like Tiger Woods challenging Roger Federer to a high stakes, non handicapped, round of golf.
wha?! That's ridiculous. Poker is poker. Doug does specialize in those formats but Dan ain't no slouch either. Your comparison is ridiculous consider Roger Feder isn't a professional golfer but both Doug and Dan are poker pros.
Besides Dan had previously claimed that he could clean out 25/50 NL online 6-table full of online pros with 2 weeks of studying. Dan obviously believe in his poker skills and he is putting his money on the line to back up his claim.
There's nothing cowardly about Doug challenging Dan. Doug had retired and had lost the desire to play poker for years - full retirement these last year or two. He'd rather play video games than play poker. If anything someone like Dan who's a top tier pro and has stayed in the game should be able take advantage of him being away for so long.
The difference between the two is Polk respects the different formats and understands it takes hard work and dedication to do well from format to format at the highest level whereas Dan thinks he can steamroll in any poker format with a bit of studying. Well now Dan has to prove it.
Nah, there are shit tons of poker variants...... no-limit holdem, heads up, online, multi tabling is about 1% of what poker is at best.
Negreanu suggested mixing in other formats, and Doug flat out refused. Really dumb for Negreanu to accept. Both are incredibly annoying. Doug's opportunism and Daniel's arrogance.
Obviously the Woods/Federer example was hyperbole, durrrr, but not that big of an exaggeration.
Obviously the Woods/Federer example was hyperbole, durrrr, but not that big of an exaggeration.
There's nothing opportunistic about Doug. It's just a challenge and it's not even a new challenge. Dan could have easily ignored it as he has done for many years. Dan is the one who believes he can dominate in any format with a little bit of studying and Doug is claiming you need way more work to go from one format to another. Doug is sticking to his format because he is defending his position in this argument. If Negreanu believes he can beat Polk with a little bit of studying then winning this challenge will validate his claim. Polk gains nothing from accepting to play in different formats because he has never claimed that he can beat Negreanu easily in other formats without putting serious effort into it.
And your Woods/Federer example was outright retarded.
If Negreanu put in the work and solely studied up on H2H poker for a year or two his chances of beating Doug Polk goes up dramatically. The betting odds for either of them would be a lot closer. There is no way Federer could train enough to beat Tiger Woods in his prime.
No, DN said from the start he was a big dog but accepted because he wanted to challenge himself.
Be quiet dork......no-limit holdem, heads up, online, multi tabling and, for example, 6 handed, limit badugi are 2 totally different games, yet still poker.
Now stop quoting me with your idiotic crap. I feel dumber just reading it.

Yup, out of the 100s of different forms of poker, this is probably Negreanu's weakest (or close to it) and Polk's strongest by far.
