Silva refused to engage full force and embarrassed DW and was very hard to watch, why? What happened there any good explanation?

Silva and Maia had trained together before and Silva thought it was disrespectful of Maia to call him out and fight for the belt

So Silva fought like that and made it a boring fight by making it seem like Maia wasn’t on his level/taking it really easy on him. Dana almost had a heart attack in the post fight conference

Are u sure that he wasn’t worried that he might get subbed?

I think that was before all the broadcasts were in hd so most people watching from home couldnt see the guitar Anderson was playing for most of the match.

Silva is a counter striker especially back then and if his opponents wouldn’t lead the dance, nothing would happen. Maia didn’t want to engage on the feet, so Anderson tried to coax him into it whilst avoiding the grappling. Just a terrible stylistic match up.

Just a bad match up for fans. Anderson Silva did go forward like he did in his fight with Thales Leites but both guys weren't looking to engage until they could take him to the ground.

It takes two to fight. If one guy isn't willing to engage then that means the other guy has got to push forward and risk being exposed to more danger. Take a look at Yoel vs Izzy and how israel did as little as possible to win the fight.

It is what it is . - Max

Been awhile since I watched that fight, but IIRC Maia just wouldn’t lead. Silva is a counter-fighter, he makes his opponent lead. When they don’t, not much happens in the fight, other than Silva will have very slight bursts of activity where he waves his arms around a lot and lands leg kicks and wins rounds that way.

Anderson was scared of Maia jiu jitsu so he didn’t even try for a finish and just coasted to a bizarre decision.

Anderson clowned around and kinda gassed himself out a little bit. Just an ugly matchup of a grappler who doesnt want to engage with a striker and a striker who doesnt want to engage with a grappler. Sort of like Werdum/Overeem 1

I also theorized at the time that Anderson didn’t want to inflict unnecessary damage on someone, especially a fellow Brazilian. Just a theory. Why give someone brain damage if you can win without doing so. I know there are plenty of counter arguments to this, so spare me. It was just a theory.

he beat up maia so bad he didnt try later.maia was scared to strike most of the fight
