Game Services thread, v2: Ubisoft headline portends a darker gaming future

Did you try calling and negotiating for this? I'm willing to bet you could get it walked down to $10/mo until EA Play is added.

Wait does EA play only come with Gamepass ultimate? I thought for console players they needed gamepass ultimate and for PC you only needed xbox game pass?

Here it seems to indicate PC players only need gamepass:

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/09/09/get-ea-play-with-xbox-game-pass-at-no-additional-cost/
This means Ultimate members can enjoy EA Play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows 10 PCs, and Xbox Game Pass for PC members get EA Play on Windows 10.

Ah you're right, guess there is no point in complaining then.

Would still be nice if they gave something for that last-minute delay, we'll see.

I think that's why they spontaneously added the 10 games listed in post #79 that weren't part of the announced release schedule for the month. It's a bone, at least.

My Xbox Live Ultimate pass expired today after I cancelled it a few days ago, as I want to rejoin for £1.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be letting me. It keeps looking to charge me £10.99 instead.

Why do companies insist on giving nothing to those who are already with them?

Make another profile and pay 1$ with that one and set it as the primary account and share gamepass with it.

Because they already baited you hook, line and sinker. There is no incentive for them to do so, unless you complain about it.

I am not renewing my Game Pass when it runs out in 3 weeks. I will re-up when they are giving it away for $1 again and I am eligible. But $16 a month is to expensive, when I have either finished or own most of the games on GP anyways.

Yeah same. I'm not going to bother with Game Pass anymore (RIP Fallout 76 and Outer Worlds).

I think I'll just get Xbox Live Gold, maybe a one-off payment for the year, and leave it at that.

My subscription ran out today, so I'll keep looking at it over the next few days, see if the deal becomes available to me.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers hit 18 million
Microsoft’s Netflix for video games continues to grow
Microsoft is continuing to attract people to its Xbox Game Pass service. The “Netflix for video games” service now has 18 million subscribers, up from the 15 million previously reported in September. Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that offers access to a growing selection of more than 100 Xbox games for $9.99 per month.

Microsoft has been pushing Xbox Game Pass for more than a year now, and it’s clear the company is heavily invested in its future. Bungie’s Destiny 2 title appeared on Xbox Game Pass late last year, and Control is also available on the service for both Xbox and PC.

On an earnings call today, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also revealed that Xbox Live has more than 100 million monthly active users. Nadella also said the launch of the Xbox Series X and S was the most successful in Microsoft’s history, with “the most devices ever sold in a launch month.”
Game Pass membership grew by 20% (+3m subscribers) in the last four months. It isn't clear how many are on PC only, but it appears to be closing in on 1/5th of all active Xbox gamers.

Do they still have the whole upgrade your Gold account to Gamepass Ultimate for $1, or is that a deal that periodically comes and goes? I just got my Series X and I only see an offer of basically trying out Gamepass for $1 for three months, which I don’t really want to do right now because I don’t see myself having much time to game for the next little while.

Or is it likely a case that it’s a trick only US subscribers can take advantage of? My Gold automatically renewed for 12 more months in December and if there was an opportunity to upgrade it to GPU at minimal cost I’d take it.

You have to be completely new to Game Pass. Not sure if it's available in Canada, but I think it is. Don't use the Xbox page, go through Microsoft on your PC. Stack 36-months Xbox Live Gold. It will convert at a 1:1 ratio.

What happens to my prepaid months of Xbox Live Gold and/or Xbox Game Pass when I join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate?
When you join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, we will apply any prepaid time you have on Xbox Live Gold and/or Xbox Game Pass for Console or PC toward Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, up to a maximum of 36 months.
For example, if you have 3 months of Xbox Live Gold and 3 months of Xbox Game Pass for Console already on your account when you purchase your first month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you will have a total of 7 months of Ultimate on your account before you need to renew your membership.

Confirmation via an Xbox ambassador directly (Dec-2020; there was also a Gamespot article confirming the conversion was active as of 5 days ago prior to the canceled price hike for Xbox Live Gold):

Well I am completely new to Gamepass so hopefully I can figure this out and make it work for me. I’ll look into it. Thanks.

For anyone who isn’t a new subscriber and wants a restock on Ultimate, you can get a week sub for $1.

It’s a max of 10 from each seller but it allows you to stack from multiple sellers. I’m good on Game Pass Ultimate until July for a little over $20.

Site is legit. I’ve used it in the past for PS+.

PSN critic's choice sale has Jedi Fallen Order for $19.99, but I'll wait until the disc version is that cheap.

Ratchet and Clank free to own during March.

This was already posted in the Xbox thread, but I'm re-posting here the Zenimax games added to Game Pass today:

Great news. However, while's that's a huge bonus to the service, It's been three months, and I've reached the tether of my patience. Where in the blue fuck is EA Play for PC on Game Pass Ultimate, Microsoft? You promised it on December 15, when it came to Xbox users, and it still hasn't arrived on PC.

Grace period is over. Get off your asses, and give me The Fallen Order, goddamit.

Okay, a silly headline from earlier this week.
Google Stadia now runs on Xbox Series (also Luna)
It's very rough, since this isn't officially supported, and the Chromium-based version of Microsoft Edge is still in alpha, plus most would argue also pointless, since I don't see any reason why anyone would be interested in Stadia who could instead use Cloud Gaming via a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, but it's a fun exercise that demonstrates Microsoft's increasing willingness to accommodate slightly more open-source software.

Finally, I took this as an opportunity to update all the posts, links, and game counts in the OP.

Yea I’ve been waiting for EA play also. They added The Yakuza games I haven’t played yet 3,4,5, code vein, and ff12 (which I didn’t like). This was enough to get me to sign back up. Plus I need to play ori 2 and I beat hollow knight. Seeing that I could also get ultimate for $1 even though I already got the free trial using the normal gp also helped.

I’ll most likely just keep the sub after this. There’s a couple of Zenimax games I want to play and hoping doom 2016 shows up soon.

It's an odd exclusion, considering it was already on the service. Guess they don't want to step on DE's toes just yet. I've been thinking about trying out "DOOM 3" though. I haven't played that game since it first came out on PC. Scared the fuck out of me back then, and I was never put off by it's change in direction.

I randomly read somewhere that the game is on ps now and there might be some sort of contract in place keeping it off GP.

Makes sense. They're also missing a "Wolfenstein" game and "Fallout 3" for whatever reason.
