Wearing a mask has eradicated the Flu! Flu cases are almost nonexistent

You have to wonder how can things ever go back to how they were? Crowded bars, shoulder to shoulder in restaurants, theatres, queues etc.

Like the sneezing thing, in the old days someone would come into work with a cold and we would all make a joke 'Oh, don't come near me with that, I can't afford to be ill' and all laugh. But now it's different, people will take it seriously.

Shaking hands, sharing food, pick a mix, buffets etc. I can see much of our culture hanging tbh.
Personally. I think we should all be mandated bubble boys until adulthood and sex should be outlawed and performed just like Demolition Man. Just like Demolition Man which was basically a prophecy. No kissing either.

Plot twist, Covid 19 is the new Flu.
It actually more like the common cold, just a bad strain of it. Around 25 percent of common cold virus are coronavirus strains (the rest are typically rhinovirus).

Influenza isn't even related to COVID. So if anything, "it's just cold", is a better way to describe it.

I think you're a total wanker

Jail time for having a cold in public?

Seriously, sterilize yourself, check your T levels (they're seriously low) and STFU
Hey you better stfu I have low Libido.

How many times has anyone you know been tested for the flu prior to this? When would someone get tested for the flu before this? Only if they were hospitalized? I mean we didnt have a drive through flu testing location. Also when someone died did they get tested for the flu?

I know 6 people that have gotten sore throats and cough in the last couple months but were negative for the Wuhan. Is that the flu? I always thought of the flu as a fever and puking.
You do have a point, i was sick and went to a covid testing station, everyone else i know when having fatigue or stuffy nose went to get tested for covid nobody went to get tested for flu, most people with no symptoms get tested for covid as well.

I forget his username, maybe @Sunnyvale TP ? but someone in the Covid thread who works in a hospital said he's seen a couple of flu cases only this year.

I haven't even had a cold this year. I thought I did a couple of weeks ago but it was just an allergy. I've been back at work since July, ordinarily I would have had 3 colds by now. Hand washing, sanitiser, masks and social distancing...it's not really a hardship.

People should have been washing hands all the time. It was kinda sad it took a pandemic to get everyone on board with washing their hands and not coughing on each other

My dad just caught a cold. My mom took him to get tested. He ended up negative though thankfully.

I had one case who was a flu last week. I do think all the precautions from Covid cut down flu transmission.

Yeah general cleanliness shouldn't be a burden, apart from Mon-Fri my fingers look like I've been in the bath for 10 hours.

Flu cases may be down, but suggesting one reason for it, seems abrupt. Because there are multiple possibilities to consider:
* people less likely to get tested when they're sick compared to other years
* masks as you suggest
* social distance
* flu cases being reported as covid
* people not going outside
* increased awareness of hygiene

Probably other changes have occurred that could have also impacted these numbers.

I'm confused. If these measures keep the flu at bay, why is the Rona still spreading like wildfire?

I havent shaken a hand in like a year. Cant believe it was ever a thing.

Folks still shake my hand. I naturally go with it to avoid social awkwardness.

We should go back to the way we were 100%, with individuals who wish to wear a mask having their right to do so.

I noticed that too. although usually I get flu/cold-like shit once a winter, but nothing this year, not even a runny nose.

I hate wearing a mask but I can’t argue that it prevents illness. Having young kids I usually get sick multiple times each winter and I haven’t even had a common cold so far this year.

I also think if anything this pandemic has showed us how nasty we live. By washing hands more frequently and sanitizing work spaces we’ve cut out a lot of stuff.

yeah the flu is basically non existent right now with the mandatory mask wearing, the issue with covid is that its super tiny that it can go through masks thats why so many people are getting covid. so say covid becomes less of a threat at least with mask wearing it can prevent Flu and colds.

I hate being around people who are coughing as well especially at buffets and casinos, also mandatory temperature checks as well to avoid people who are sick spreading germs. And also make sure to check their pockets for tylenol, advil, ibuprofen, etc so they dont beat the temp tests by popping tylenols.

So you're telling me that you have two viruses that can only be viewed with an electron microscope. One of them is a little bigger than the other and it just so happens that masks are made at a density that allows the skinny virus through but the fat virus gets blocked?
