Why is he scared to engage in any grappling or clinch work?
Lack of confidence in that area he'd rather stand and look pretty with the highlight KO like Dustin dropped on him...

I wouldn’t say he is a decent grappler, Dustin is e better grappler than him and you wouldn’t class have as a decent grappler would you?Because hes a decent grappler in a division of very good to great grapplers. Conor engaging the grappling is like sticking out his neck and begging to be choked. His level of grappling just is not enough
Did you see the fights Dan hooker vs Al and Dan hooker vs Dustin. I think it’s safe to say grappling, strength and size Dustin and hooker are comparable right?True, but I think he struggles putting people down in higher weight classes. His power hasn’t transitioned well moving up, it seems shorter people like Eddie suffer more. Cowboy I think was a different situation, he got he nose busted by a shoulder and more of a freak situation as opposed to clean strikes.
I feel his without his power left, he will soon tire and anyone who can get passed that initial output can easily beat him later. I am suprised you think Al wouldn’t stand a chance, I would’ve thought his wrestling toughness would weather conors initial barrage leaving him open to being taken down and controlled with ease

Justin is supposed to be an amazing grappler, and from what we’ve seen in MMA you wouldn’t call him a decent grappler either would you.
I think Nate is a decent grappler, and khabib is superior elite. Kevin Lee, Oliviera etc in the middle/elite, maybe even Tony you could class as a decent grappler.
Conor is a decent grappler.
Dustin is a very good grappler. As are Tony and Lee.
Olivera and Khabib are great grapplers.
Nate is a good grappler but a shit wrestler. Gaethje is a great wrestler but shit grappler.
Conor is all around average where as the rest are at least above average and at most the top of their games

Al got fucking bludgeoned. Way to small. Way to weak. I mean shit, cowboy out struck him.
Now obviously mma math doesn’t work always. But where he’s probably not as strong, and he was getting out kickboxed by cerrone very recently. I struggle to see him beating Conor
I've seen enough from him between fight and training. Hes not bad. Hes not good. He is extremely average. solid takedown defense, ok defensive tactics for stalling, little to no submission game, ok top control against sub par to average grapplers. What you said is true apart from Connor, we haven’t seen him grapple enough to say he’s a decent grappler.
he has been choked out 3 times and knee barred, he shows no sign of defence to submissions.
He defended well against Khabib, but he clearly focused all his training to try and cancel out Khabibs style which didn’t work. I think Khabib could’ve finished him a lot sooner, but wanted to make a point.
Lol, this.Maybe he remembered what happened when he tried to take down Nate in their first fight.
I also think his team are yes men, and do what Conor thinks is best as opposed to what’s best for ConorI've seen enough from him between fight and training. Hes not bad. Hes not good. He is ok. If he was in a division with less grappling talent then his flaws wouldn't stick out as much. It's not so much that his grappling is bad. Its that is is horrifically under developed for as long as hes been doing this. Which is the fault of both himself and his team for only addressing issues as they come up instead of constantly trying to push a d improve
It depends who you roll with mr ShowYouRoll, for instance when you are the boss - it's easy to rest or even if you are chilling in guard while the other guy doesn't really have a good passing game it's easy to rest but if you roll with someone of a significantly higher skill level then you will gas just trying to keep up.Depends if you are a smart grappler, it doesn’t have to wear your cardio. Don’t assume from something you watch, go and learn to grapple and maybe you will learn how to get a position and get a rest
He out grappled a striped white belt in Max Holloway, who was a late replacement on two weeks notice. While Conor had training camp and was already a purple belt.He out grappled Max and Nate. He also used to grapple prior to coming to the ufc.

Conor was green in grappling as well. Max has the same ground game now as he did thenMax was a white belt training out of a garage in Hawaii. Nate stuffed him and choked him out.
He did grapple before the UFC. Duffy and Sitenkov taught him the Fast Tap Technique.

He wasn’t that late of a replacement, he had a while to train for Conor.Max was a late replacement and literally a white belt. Conor held a purple belt at that time.
But I don't blame your ignorance, since you just started watching mma.
Max isn't a grappler. Out grappling him when he was green isn't some major accomplishment.Conor was green in grappling as well. Max has the same ground game now as he did then
