A DQ win in a championship fight should not award the winner of the fight the title

The champion who caused the DQ should be stripped of the title and fined 50% of the purse to be given to the challenger, this should prevent any future intentional DQ's

The title is then deemed to be vacant

Sterling didn't want to be awarded the title, that's not how you want to remember your first championship win, I felt bad for the man

EDIT: I have changed my mind, a loss is a loss, Yan should know better, the winner should be awarded the title

Stirling should have just thrown the belt on the ground when Dana put on his waist then cut a promo on how it wasn't a real win and it should have been vacated instead

Would have a much better outcome.

If the title is vacant then how can Yan win back the belt he lost?

Yan made a blatant foul while dominating the fight. Mind numbingly bad. One of the worst blunders in a title fight.

ONE of the worst?!?!

Then again when I think about it, Russians have a decades-long history of cheating like crazy in all sports that puts 'Murcans to shame. (And no, Khabib and his crew don't count by virtue of being Dagestani, it's not their fault where they live was annexed by Russia.)

Why not? A DQ gives the win to the other person in the case of any fight. Yan lost, he gave the win to Sterling in a title fight.

Sterling gets the title but as said b4 it should be with an asterisk. Not undisputed. For those complaining about Sterling possibly overacting, consider after getting kneed hard to the head how bewildered you would be realizing first fighter to be able to win a title after getting knocked out. It was probably like a bizarre dream. Is this real life or just fantasy? The knee looked damaging enough to call the fight but rolling around like a soccer player was a bit much.

Yan deserved to lose after that blatant of a knee. still can't believe hes that fucking stupid. some russian coach needs to spend one or two weeks going over every single rule with Yan everyday.

Peter Yan should know the fucking rules.

This happened in boxing when Roy Jones Jr. was given his first loss by DQ against Montell Griffin and he lost the belt

They had a rematch and Jones demolished Griffin in 1 round, so yes Griffin was the champ but I'm sure he never really felt like the champion

Either way, it might just be better to leave the rules as is

Basically the same shit happened, Roy Jones knowingly broke the rules and deserved to lose the title

Yan will never hear the end of it. The worst title change ever, worse than Couture vs Belfort 2. Aljo too, worst title win ever. Serra Longo are very depressed. What a cluster fuck

didnt want tthe title you say

Why are people mad at sterling? Should be made at Yan for the blatant cheating
Probably cause a lotta white dudes are always jealous/angry that white girls like black men's wieners the most.

I feel like the belt should become vacant in these types of scenarios. And the offender should be suspended for 12-18 months to avoid instant rematch, or at least prevented to fight for the belt right away.
