It's amazing how little he gets talked about .. Guys like Francis, Usman, Jan and Petr are very skilled fighters in their own right but if we're talking about complexity Alex has the largest array of skills and techniques in his game.

Stance switching, shifting, striking defense, boxing, calf kicks, body kicks, different entries, different takedowns, combinations, clinch, grappling, everything, he's so complete.

Not a particularly interesting personality but I really hope he gets the recognition he deserves one day. Dude is an MMA machine.

I def think he’s underrated that’s for sure.

Lost a lot of fans when he downright refused to fight Holloway after the 2nd fight, which most considered a clear win for Holloway. On the same boat, think he has impressive skills but Holloway exposed him in the 2nd fight and hes been avoiding it since. Can't call yourself an undisputed champ like that.

He might not be the most skilled champion but he is definitely the most unlikeable one.

What makes him more skilled than Yan or Usman though?
Well I think Yan has a very effective (and awesome) minimalistic boxing oriented stand up style. He doesn't mix in different types of kicks or use angles often like Alex does.

And Usman isn't nearly the striker Alex is, I think that's pretty evident without me having to elaborate.

Second fight was close but he beat him twice and gave him an immediate rematch after the first fight. I don't blame him and I'm sure they'll do the trilogy at some point.

At first, I read the title and thought “what a stupid thread” but then I thought about it and you’re probably right

Ortega will run through him. Max Holloway has some ways to go in grappling that’s why he was easy to exploit and point fight.

Others seem to think otherwise, but thinking back on that fight felt like a complete robbery at the time. Thought Holloway won clear first 3 rounds and Volk couldn't keep up. Last 2 rounds were better for Volk but Holloway was still dangerous and landing strikes. Even Dana White thought Holloway won the fight and was immediately talking about 3rd fight until Volk outright declined. Majority of media sources and other fighters agreed Holloway won as well. Was on the Volk train myself until that fight, he didn't look good and definitely looked beatable.

Mighty Mouse was in the same situation during his UFC reign. For good or bad, personality is part of the equation in fighter recognition. Enjoy watching the extremely well rounded skill set of both when they compete. Hope Volk gets more recognition. IMO, it is well deserved.
