Joanna got one more fight in her UFC contract, wants BIG money to re-sign

She deserves something gracious. Being fair, to her, should be some pretty substantial money.

Joanna has consistently delivered for the UFC. She carried a division for some time, has been active on social media, promotes fights well, did TUF, has a solid fan base, and gives us fights like the one vs Zhang (which was recent).

Send her into retirement comfortable, she earned it for all the hard work.
She ain't in a position to be greedy tho. She's been there for a while and started off the division so I see bumping her up as they do with veterans. That being said if other organizations offer more I can see the UFC being fine with letting her go. Weili beat her although an awesome fight and their current champ beat her twice decisively. They can afford to lose her tbh.

UFC knows she is on the downtrend of her career. Her last fight is arguably in the top 10 best mma fights in the modern era. Unfortunately, that fight took years off her career and possibly life and its safe to expect the UFC to cut her similar to how Rory McDonald was cut.

Shelby and Dana know this business very well. I would be very surprised if she renewed with higher pay.

Sure, but at this point in her career she's on the decline. Not sure if she has much leverage here. Also from her social media activity it seems fighting is kind of a side thing for her nowadays (not saying this is good or bad, she should do whatever is better for her).

She's 0-3 vs the current and former champ at 115. She's also 0-1 against the 125 champ. So, not sure what her path is right now. She's definitely not in a great bargaining position.

Talking contradiction. She can make so much more money out of the UFC? OK, do that. But, she wants a new contract with more money? Look, these fighters have to demand the $ when they are champ. The Boogiewoman got ktfo and Dana cares less now. He will buy him another 5 mil home, but fuck the fighters. His job is to lowball fighters. He is good at his job.

She should have asked for a lot more money when she was on top
Champions take a hit to bargaining power in mma since they can't fight out their contracts then, but they are obligated to defend titles still. MMA is backwards in terms of when a fighter's drawing power and bargaining power peak.

Prize fighters wanting a bigger prize is being greedy?

How does this work? I'm a champ and I demand more money, then what? If I sit out, I lose the belt, if I hang on to the belt, I can't fight out my contract. Champs lose a lot of bargaining power when they win a belt in mma.

Bigger head equal bigger money.

Delusional. Stay retired. She doesn't deserve more money for getting her ass kicked in 4 out of her last 6 fights. Look at who her wins are, Waterson and Torres? She can't even hang in the UFC. She should fight a can and run to Bellator.

And to be clear, she doesn't deserve a rematch with Rose or Weili.
Dana called. He wants his cock sleeve back.

Oh shit Joanna talking about free agency. Here comes the UFC shills to call her a can and say she was never good anyway. As soon as she re-signs she’s nice again and they’ll start playing matchmaker about who she should fight. You UFC fanboy bums are so predictable

Maybe she wants money to enhance that tiny boob job.

Honestly, why do it half way? We dont need watermelons, but something bigger than oranges.

I’m all for JJ a getting big paydays but it only makes sense if she is willing to be fight girls ranked below her. Can’t demand non-stop titles
Makes sense.

I mean if she's willing to give the ufc a chance to build up and comers off her name she should be paid well for it. She's put her time in and and pretty much carried her division for years.

I wouldn’t hate Joanna joining Bellator’s Flyweight division. I’m sure KSW would love to sign her as well.

She wanna pull a Jon Jones

Sit out, ask for unreasonable amounts of money, choose your opponents and play hard to get.

Fail

unlike jon what she do is fight that 1 more fight than see what scott coker would offer her to fight at 125 pounds.

If they dont get when they are champ, they damn sure arent going to get it after losses. She was one of the first female champs in the UFC, so she had some leverage. Apparently bargaining works or you wouldnt have so many fighters using Ali as a manager. Does the manager do the money haggling? If renewing a contract while champ, then this is the time to jump on it. PPV points and other perks are always there to ask for. Never say "I can make more doing other things" to Dana.

She’s reportedly made around 3 million from the UFC in her career. Wmma is not a popular sport. She has 5 finishes in 20 fights, so she’s never been a huge draw. That’s pretty decent pay, given the circumstances. I’m all for fighter pay going up, but the odds are against her. And it’s a terrible time for her to be demanding more money.

She had very little leverage as champ. What actions would you advise a champ to take or not take to get a better deal? The main tool for any athlete is driving up their pay is free agency, which simply doesn't exist for mma champions.

Ali is popular because he is screwing over some of his fighters. There is no other way to explain him being the UFC's favorite manager. You can't be both the promotions favorite and also represent your individual client's best interests. Those are inherently contradictory goals.
