Bobby Knuckles has a better jab than Usman

And I had to disagree. I like Whitaker's don't get me wrong. When compared to Marty's though I don't think much of it

that's how the discussion went the other night

A recent phenomenon for Usman He didn't have it before TW. Turns out he has a gift A picture perfect jab that's deceptive and powerful. there's a reason he has so much success with the southpaw jab

It's because you can't see it coming

'Youre the champ because of that jab'

The Rob with the best jab in the ufc now is Rob Font.

They both have great jabs in their own right, but totally different striking styles.
Whittaker is definitely the more explosive of the two, however they both have great timing.

A fight between them would be fantastic, would give the edge to Rob though based on his phenomenal take down defense.

Whittaker got KOd at WW
A few months after Whittaker got ko'd at WW Usman got subbed at WW. Times change, fighters evolve. But yes should a match up occur at WW then obviously Usman would win, primarily because Whittaker would have to borderline kill himself to get back down WW. At MW Whittaker picks Usman apart.

He's got both power in it and can use it as a set-up punch. So it's great.

The point against it is that he's a dominant wrestler. Opponents have to look out for his clinch and TD's as well, so he can jab freely. And Usman is stiff on the feet. He doesn't move loosely like Adesanya or Anderson. Or Kattar. Means that if you put Usman in striking competition how his jab carries over. So it's never the same with MMA striking and pure strikers coming over to MMA.

Usman has a great jab but he clearly drops his hand to his waist after landing it, a pretty basic technical error

It's funny how you absoluty need wrestling for mma, but at the top of the mountain, classic boxing jab become one of the best weapons.

Whittakers jab is smarter and is used better especially as a counter.

Different types of jabs. You are describing only the "basic" jab. Watch slick style boxers, they have the most versatile jabs in elite level boxing. They all break that rule purposely.

You, again? Usman has had a solid jab for what? Two fights? Whittaker has had a - more than - solid jab for a number of years now - and against better competition, who can actually strike. Whittaker essentially defeated Romero with a jab.

This is like stating that Demian Maia is better off his back than Conor McGregor

Usman's actual punch is better in terms of accuracy, power and timing perhaps but whittaker uses superior movement with circling jabs and he rarely leaves himself open when throwing them. Its a Tie maybe. Overall striking Whittaker kills him, Usman has a really strong offense but he's stiff when it comes to defense; he'll be caught by the high kick combo in round 1.

Usman uses his jab to damage his opponents by putting power into it and utilizing his longer reach.
Whittaker uses his jab to setup combos or keep his opponent at bay.
Overall Whittaker is the overall better striker and used the jab a lot better than most fighters.

It's an infinitely better jab and anyone who has ever trained boxing will agree, but who cares since they're in different weight classes?
