Karate in the Olympics?

The ruleset is dumb but let's not pretend that every Karate guy on the olympics wouldn't KTFO you in under a minute. If you watched the Kumite it was quite bloody with a lot of busted noses and some KO's, even a snapped arm. It's semi-contact but still it's high level striking.

Why not go with gear instead? I guess a bit harder to get a KO, but ruling a legit KO as DQ its just dumb.

The Olympics got it sooo wrong here...it was hard to watch and take seriously with the running and jumping away between shots and screaming

Should of been closer to combat karate or. Kyokushin karate style competitions

The Olympics have a long history of neutering combat sports though (look at Judo for instance) so this is very much inline with what they want combat sports to be though. A sport spectable, not an combat.

Nothing different than any other Olympics. NBC did a very poor job with their coverage. Also, a lot of people have lost all their marbles in the last 5 years.

enough with the whataboutisms. this is not about jones and his cheating ass. sterling was CLEARLY on his knees. ref said that he's downed. pretty clearly. no excuses, no crowd nothing. and his stupid ass still went on to throw the knees. that was a 80 IQ move right there. he was winning that fight but couldn't control his evil urges. you cheat you lose. it's as simple as that. the referee that night was a G. not these twats like herb dean who let MFs like conor cheat as much as they want. plus it was clearly intentional.

what goalposts? yan did that shit, nobody forced him and your best response is to bring up jones' fouls. jones kneed smith. smith wanted to "be a man", missed out on a lucrative rematch and some publicity (bad publicity but still publicity nonetheless). it was "noble" but stupid. he's gotta family to feed. why the fuck would aljo a rational human being, whom dana despises. the same motherfucker dana kept denying title shots 2 years after he earned said title shot. why would would aljo after taking an illegal knee NOT take the win and money? why not? he and yan aren't friends, he doesn't owe him anything. there is no "code of honour", especially knowing that if aljo went back in there and got knocked out, dana would NEVER give him another shot at the title despite the fact that the knockout resulted from an injury caused by an illegal knee. so aljo did nothing wrong. petr yan's stupid ass ruined everything. but realistically he'll probably win the rematch, but no worries, tj will beat him.
