Crime The Gabby Petito case.

Apparently she's a "travel influencer", so I'm guessing she posts videos on Tik Tok or Youtube, so has some kind of following.
The story so far reads like one of these Netflix Documentaries, it's just happening in real time.
There's a lengthy video of the police pulling her and her boyfriend over and talking with them, so we can get a glimpse of who they are and what they are like.
And the whole thing with the boyfriend is just bizarre. It would seem that the guy would've been arrested on the spot.
I don't get how a girl can go missing, you come back with her car---without her---and then can refuse to answer questions.

It's his legal right to not answer questions. Most regular folks don't know this, but you should NEVER talk to the cops, for any reason. Always lawyer up. Cops are fucking scumbags who will railroad you just to clear a case. They'll twist everything you say, even if it's an innocent mistake, and use it as evidence against you. The kid is being smart, never talk to them.

So yes, story is scary and tragic and hopefully there somehow is a good or ok outcome for it. 22 year old girl has gone missing in Grand Teton National park. She was on a cross country road trip with her boyfriend. The boyfriend returned home without her earlier this month, won't talk with authorities, and the family reported her missing over the weekend. August 12th there was a domestic incident between Gabby and her boyfriend, police body cam makes it seem the girl was the aggressor. Boyfriend looks hella guilty, but police not ruling out it being related to a double homicide at a MOAB campsite around that time.

I am seeing it EVERYWHERE tho. Every Local news station running multiple articles a day. MSN homepage on new tabs at work. There are how many missing persons/suspected deceased cases in America, and why is this one so prominent all around? CNN and FOX both have it as website homepage stories.

Some stories just have that certain quality that attracts media attention. In any case more media attention for this case is good as it will encourage the authorities to give it special attention and the public may be able to provide infomation. It will also put pressure on that scumbag boyfriend.

I don't disagree. The cops aren't your friends.
That being said, this was his gf or fiance...and he's driving her car without her while she's missing. He looks guilty as hell. It's not how we normally see these kinds of things play out, so I think it's part of the intrigue.

i always get suspicious when these missing bimbo cases suddenly pop up. feels like filler to either pump up a slow news cycle or distraction for a bigger, under-reported story.

Yep I think if it was just an attractive girl, it wouldn't garner much media outside the local outlets. But that combined with the fact that he returned home without her and isn't talking is what has people's attention.

The boyfriend’s actions of returning home without her, staying silent, and getting a lawyer is what interests me. Did he not know how guilty that makes him look?

It makes him smart actually. The kid did his homework. I'd rather look guilty than be found guilty.

The moment he returned without her, he looks guilty. At that point, getting a lawyer and shutting up is just smart, guilty or not. Authorities prey on the notion that getting a lawyer and exercising your right to remain silent makes you look guilty, when the reality is, talking to them is just another avenue for them to build a case against you, if they have nothing. You might still get charged, but at least they won't have hours and hours of interrogation footage(all the way down your demeanor..."He wasn't crying uncontrollably. GUILTY!") to pick apart and try to make you look guilty at trial.

As right as it might seem, you do not want to play ball with authorities if you are the only suspect on their radar in a case such as this. You're just feeding the beast. They have techniques upon techniques to lead you down a guilty path, even if you're not.

Funny how thousands of people go missing every year, but the media basically exclusively covers the ones involving white people. particularly white girls

Yeah. He looks guilty as hell, and I'd bet he is guilty

But if he's innocent, even though this is making him look guilty to the court of public opinion, this is his only chance of staying innocent. So I can't hate him for being smart about it. Just hope the police do their job and get to the bottom of this, whatever it is.
