Wing Chun kicks should be banned in MMA

You have something against Wing Chun and want to promote the idea that the heavily modified hybridized and cross trained standup we see in MMA is still "boxing" when it is looking closer to WC the more it evolves.
Didn't someone just have a discussion in here about how traditional WC looked nothing like it does today and WC is hybridizing boxing. Therefore wouldn't MMA boxing be closer to boxing considering WC didn't work so they just started taking all the parts of other combat sports to try and make WC not so shit?

no, it means boxing and mma ARE closer to becoming wing chun.

If you haven't noticed WC is a system thats oppressed under the systemic approach boxing and mma have pushed over the years to keep the true king down

let’s not forget that Roberto Duran was a wing chung fighter too

Roberto Duran is clearly a Muay Thai fighter. Look at his guard, note how he has his palms facing forward like a Nak Muay so he can clinch and block/catch kicks.

Nice work ignoring the relevant quote about the kick being banned in Glory, even though you said you think "the WC knee stomp should be banned, but is less dangerous than a rugby tackle which should not be banned since it crashes into the thigh".

And Lol at boxing in MMA

WC when it's trained and sparred looks far, far closer to what we see in modern MMA standup, especially at close range than boxing.

It's embarrassing that anyone claims or would think traditional gloved "boxing" even vaguely resembles the standup people are doing today MMA.
It is totally hybridized modified thai-greco-mma or something like that.

I’ve seen lots of WC sparring videos and none of them look anything like MMA standup…

What the fuck are you on about lol

There are a lot more variables in a rugby tackle that can go wrong and cause considerable injury. Better ban the sport.
I think targeting the knee in combat sports is unsporting that's the majority of the reason for me thinking it should be banned, Similar to the way deliberately targeting the knees in rugby is banned.
However knee injuries that are catastrophic to a career are still rare, in both MMA and Rugby. Should a catastrophic injury occur, that can affect a persons quality of life after sport.
This secret WC technique isn't nearly as dangerous as you're making out or thousands of MMA fighters around the world would be walking around with limps.
The 2nd photo I went to school with him and he's still playing professionally.

So have you made up your mind?
You think the kick should be banned in MMA but you don't think Rugby tackles should be banned, and you believe the kick is less dangerous than a rugby tackle.

Ok...

<YeahOKJen>

Now you say the kick is 'unsporting' but before you said the reason was you knew how damaged knees can affect quality of life.

Elbowing someone in the face is also 'unsporting'.

If you are arguing for it to be banned due to risk of causing injury then just stfu and say it, you are basically agreeing with me from the beginning.

You are the one who is arguing that it's dangerous because its a WC move bud, lets not forget this thread is not at all about banning it but just you stroking the dick of Wing Chun.

It's dangerous and it's a WC move.

Can you leave aside your thoughts about stroking dicks of WC guys for a few hours at least though.

We both agree it should be banned. I had called for it to be banned since long before you joined up. There are some other moves from other styles that I agree with being banned also.
So you could have just made this clearer from the beginning instead of posting self contradictory arguments about rugby.

I said it should be banned from the offset. it was when you started banging on about how dangerous it was that I had to interject and point out that for over 200 years people have been hurtling into peoples knees in Rugby and it very rarely causes a serious injury, which often ends up by accident putting 300lbs of shoulder into your knee joint.

What's a serious injury to you then?
Needing surgery and possibly never returning to 100% isn't serious enough?

Tell me when that has happened in MMA from this kick.

You'd have to ask the guys who needed surgery after the kicks if they feel their knees recovered to 100%

It's banned in Glory for good reason.
Anyway it's still a bit safer in the ring, since barefoot on sweating knee is less likely to connect than with shoes if you used it outside.

Any knee injury never returns to 100% that goes with any ligament injury in your body. I tore my MCL and it never recovered. My knee hurts every day.

@TheMaster

This might interest you. I highly doubt that Duran ever had any contact with wing chun, though. Turns out that if an idea's good, lots of people will come up with it on their own.

I know its a joke but it hurts my heart to read Durans name in a WC thread. "Sticky hands" and WC punching/deflecting is like comparing Abramowitschs luxury yacht with a floating toilet in the ocean. Both are able to float but there are "small" differences. :)

It can cause damage to the connective tissues in the knee, but I question how critical that damage is long term compared to something like a heel hook
