I'm concerned about someone dying with the kind of fights organizations like Triller put on...

Promoters should be ashamed of themselves for that one

Didn't Pulev fight Anthony Joshua like last year? Frank has been completely shot for at least 5 years at this point and was never known for his boxing as it is

5 years? 10 years ago Mir almost got knocked out by a JAB from Big Nog.

I keep saying this, Tito should have been the guy. He has a huge head and his brain is insulated against damage, and there aren't many braincells there to begin with, so we can sacrifice him to Pulev for entertainment. Mir is only there for name recognition, he looked so so slow to me in his last fight, eventhough he survived it. He moved even slower in this one, I'm pretty sure an average non-sherdogger could have dodged his shots.

He fared about as well as he did against Fedor. So Fedor-Mir shouldn't have been sanctioned either?

I think Fedor finished him faster actually.

EDIT: yea, old Fedor finished him much faster.

Top of the food chain boxers will ALWAYS beat the living shit out of MMA fighters in a boxing match, but they took it to the next step and put in a dinosaur in Mir.
The clinch friendly aspect actually seems to change this balance a ton.
Mir was never a good dirty boxer but a guy like DC would absolutely maul a boxer in the clinch.

sort of reminds me of the difference between Muay Thai and kickboxing.
On paper it doesn’t seem like a big difference but it changes it a ton.

A guy just died in BKFC not long ago. A girl died in boxing not long before that. People have been dying for decades, especially in boxing. I’m not sure what the point of the thread really is.

Pro athletes sign a contract to fight in combat sports. Are you volunteering to go through every contract to make sure you don’t see a mismatched fight? They passed all the medical tests administered by the governing AC.

Start with the UFC and every girl signed to fight Amanda. Because on what planet should Pena ever fight Amanda?

The point is that it was a blatant mismatch.

I have a feeling most of these fights are a little orchestrated not staged completely but I’m sure boxer is told to punch at 50% power

Mir should've never been in that ring.

Mir in his PRIME and on his BEST day is knocked out 10/10 times against that killer.

We've already seen a recent death with bare knuckle fighting.

Shocking it was sanctioned.

He fights joshua then a completely done frank mir… mir should have retired 8 years ago.
Mir should also call pulev and thank him for not punchinh his head to the 23rd row when he was out on his feet

I still do not understand how that was sanctioned…
Commissions generally receive a cut of revenue, depending on the state. It's a bad financial incentive for regulators, be it these kind of things or even something like MayMac

The sanctioning, passing of medicals and commissions allowing match-ups, is terrible in combat sports. The problem is they put faith into the promoter. The promoter is there to make money off the backs of fighters. The commissions are there for the safety of fighters. One oversees the other. One can't let the other decide, as it's not in the promoter's interest to protect the fighter.

But at least when you watch a UFC card, not all are evenly matched, but there is semblance of an even contest. Recent wins and losses, ranking.

This Triller stuff is a step back in it. They call it a mix of two sports, but it's really boxing. They break up clinches. There is no "MMA boxing". MMA is a sport that combines all arts, it's not a single discipline sport. Boxing is.

And the mixing somehow makes it acceptable to put on cross-sport mismatches. As in "they are similar level and it's a combination". No, this is basically boxing, and in boxing Mir vs Pulev is a horrible mismatch. People get hurt that way. The competitive aspect is further away.

I said this in another thread, but ya. I mean, this reaction was absurd, but we all KNEW that that's how Mir reacts to stiff breezes. So seeing it on paper made me think that pretty much exactly what happened would happen. And it wasn't just a "oooh, he got dropped/rocked". it was a "Holy shit! If he stands there like that he could eat a literally lethal punch.

P.S. Cheers to good sportsmanship (read: honor) from Pulev. The dude's only losses were to friggin Joshua and W Klitschko. He had no business being in there with a soup-can Mir (who, like you say, would get KOd in this match in his prime's prime).

It’s not boxing so you can negate a ton of advantages. Pulev is old and didn’t come in great shape but mir got hurt really early after he was having some success.

I don’t see the outrage here. He’s capable. It’s how he makes his money. He speaks as clearly as he ever has. He just got knocked out. Which has happened to him from time to time.

Triller is absolute trash. It’s unfortunate that MMA fighters feel like they need these paydays.
I agree. And that's the most painful part - that there will always be guys like Mir who gave their best years to a brutal sport, and are now without insurance or retirement income, and are looking for a payday in a dangerous situation where the promoter and the commission should really say no.
