Cancelling student loans and how it affects you

As foreigner that does'nt know shit, from outside seems current US government catering to an important chunk of their own target audience thinking at next elections

You said they don't lend money to people that cant afford it... so you're wrong yet again. Again, key word which is ADULTS. If you were stupid enough to a degree in interpretive dance or some other stupid garbage degree, you get exactly what you deserve. It's a contract entered willingly so you can pay the consequences.

A 20 year old is an adult but can't drink because they can ruin their life for the next 20 years by getting addicted to alcohol... yet we give 20 year olds the option to put their financial lives at risk for the next 20 years by taking out loans

So what, are you advocating for a nice little socialist economy now? Planned economy with the government guaranteeing jobs for everyone? If you don't have a job in a related field after your degree, maybe you just suck at it... ever thought of that kid?

I'm advocating that the federal government not loan out trillions of dollars to kids under the guise of false job prospects

Just because someone walks out the door with a piece of paper, doesn't mean they are "educated" or even remotely useful to society. It's called a free society and free will. If people choose to waste their time and money on garbage, that's their choice and like all choices, they have to live with the consequences.

You chose to open a business before the pandemic that hinged on face to face contact, you should have been ready for the consequences of the Coronavirus. Also, some people debate if there really is free will so don't state that as a fact.

If they only go to university to get a job then why do people continue to do garbage degrees that a 2 minute cursory search on google would show that their future job title will likely be "Walmart greeter" or "Starbucks barista"? Or are you saying that a quick search before taking out a massive loan is too much to expect of you "educated" young people today?

Good question. Another good question... Why does the government continue to make money off students who can't do a 2 minute Google search to find out what their job prospects will be with said useless degree?

The government FORCED the businesses to shut down you imbecile, that's why they gave them financial support. The businesses didn't choose to close and lose heaps of money... unlike adults that CHOSE to take out massive loans. If you really can't see the false equivalency there then you are even stupider than I initially thought.

You are advocating for others tax money to be taken from them to pay for stupid people's, stupid decisions. You keep making excuses and demand big daddy government come to the rescue to save people from their own idiocy.

The Coronavirus would have shut down any face to face business you imbecile... in essence it wasn't the government that shut businesses down but a virus that is highly transmittable. If the government didn't shut down businesses, the virus would spread through contact, the hospitals would be filled with sick idiots that would not be able to go to these businesses to spend money and the businesses would have to shut down. The government saved incompetent business men from permanent business closure by funding them temporarily. The same government is now helping incompetent (at least they were younger and dumber than businessmen) students who took out massive loans from being underwater their entire life. One entity had a choice ( businesses ) in what type of business to open, the other had a choice as well but actively got MANIPULATED by the government into going to school and going under debt... see the difference dumbass?

I couldn't care less where you work as a janitor kid.

Then shut the fuck up and stop lumping me in with those "incompetent" students... I did my research before I got my degree. Unlike business owners who were too stupid to have the business acumen to have a plan in place in case a virus was transmitted. Bailed out like the diaper wearing lollipop sucking idiots they are. Needing a bailout from the government ... " they forced us to close "... no the virus closed your business dumbass. We the people saved your business from going underwater.

Yeah, I can't imagine why others would be upset for having to pay for your stupid decisions

...its a real head scratcher.

The entirety of your posts in this thread to date is the real head scratcher

Simple. If you don't want huge debts, don't go to university or if you do, pick something that actually pays well so you can pay your own damn debts.

You know very well that this, 100% is all about buying votes before the midterms. To even suggest otherwise is entirely asinine.

ha ha ha you can't be serious man

100% about buying votes huh? you truly are a special one

Here's where you belong

It would be nice to get a 10k check in the mail even though I paid off my loans a long time ago, but I have no problem with giving a break to people currently in debt. I'm happy to see it actually.

Also, lol at people saying "they went to university knowing the cost, they should have to pay everything". Shut the fuck up. You go in knowing the cost and if a break comes your way then you take it. The cost is completely ridiculous. If someone decides to go to university they should still complain until the day their loans are paid off. On top of that, most 18 year olds aren't prepared to understand the amount of debt they're about to take on.

Tuition+admin fees are like 7k per year, then you have books and living costs. Where are you getting a 4 year degree for 10k all in? lol.

That's not all in, it's tuition only. 10k is the price floor for a 3-year degree at the cheapest university obviously, typically in the cheaper eastern provinces. For most people it'll be 15-20k. The savvy students pirated their textbooks, but some universities force people to use online textbooks these days - a lot still use old-fashioned textbooks though. I believe in most provinces government grants also depend on your parents' income level. My parents were lower middle class and I got a fair chunk paid for, but if your parents were wealthy you got a less let waived.

Even the 'lesser' Universities I'm looking at seem to be 6-7k per year just for tuition and admin fees.

If the government offered to pay off your house would you whine then too?

Exact same issue. You are forcing the tax payers that have either already paid off their houses or are renting to pay for that same vote buying bullshit as well.

So yes, I would definitely have an issue with it. Imagine telling all the poor fuckers who are renting because they can't afford to buy a house of their own that you're taking their tax dollars to pay off other people's houses... that's pretty fucked up.

Just a point to add (not just to you, but to all the people saying that they think the majority of people acquired basketweaving degrees). Visual and performance art degrees make up less than 5% of all degrees.

Ok, now add in philosophy degrees, most of the humanities like fucking gender studies, art history degrees, interpretive dance etc, etc

It's a giant long list of bullshit degrees with no real job prospects. As I said earlier, a two minute search on google would have told people that there was no real job prospects for this shit.

This is something that anyone who wasn't a complete imbecile should have done before signing up to a massive loan right?

You do know that these people getting loan forgiveness also pay taxes, right? Or do you just pull your opinions off social media? Did you go to college?

The main problem with the forgiveness is that it's only $10,000. It should be at least $20,000 considering how ridiculous student loans are for most people.

Yeah, you know who also pays taxes? The people without degrees or the ones that have actually done the right thing and paid their debts off. Both of those groups get nothing.

Imagine telling all the MANY low paid workers out there that they were using their tax dollars to pay off the debts of what are statistically the highest earning group of people in the country.

Seems you think that it's fair that a welder or McDonald's employee should be forced to pay off debts you freely signed up to huh?

What's the implications if the government does not bail out the big banks and if they didn't give businesses covid relief?
Certainly it would be horrible for the economy and the banking system as well as for small businesses.

This tuition relief thing irritates me because myself and all hard working college grads I know paid off or are currently paying student loans. That's the rule.

Now they changing the goal posts thanks to woke culture.

Don't mind him, he's an idiotic child that doesn't know enough to be able to think through the implications of all of this. He doesn't see the bank bailouts as a method by which to stabilise the banking system and avoid complete economic meltdown... he just thinks "they got free money, I want free money"

He has the reasoning skills on an infant.

I gotta pay for my brownnosing cowoker who acts like an expert, but doesn't know shit. lol thanks

I bet they all returned their stimulus checks on principle.

You do realise that they paid the stimulus to everyone right? They didn't just pay it to the people who are already, statistically the highest earners in the country and say "Up yours, you get nothing" to everyone else.

You know, I did a quick read through of that wall of idiocy, started to write out the obvious, logical responses but really... why bother? You have repeatedly shown that you have the logical reasoning ability of an infant, a complete lack of knowledge around economics and an absolute disdain for the concept of personal responsibility.

It would really seem like a waste of my time as it appears that you will never understand even basic concepts anyway. It's hilarious, the kids who consider themselves "educated" these days

Never used one neither have my kids.

Pay your bills people.
