Television ANDOR (Dragonlord's Recommendation: One of the Best TV Shows of 2022, post #439)

The production quality of this show is something you don't see often. Seeing the quality of this show makes me even more disappointed in Obi-Wan Kenobi though.

Episode 4 was a 10/10 for me.

They really dove into political-spy intrigue this episode. Skarsgard is just killing it as Luthen. The guy is such a damn good actor. Luthen being a fine antique dealer is the perfect cover. It allows him to meet and talk with various powerful people in Coruscant while also being able to travel off world without much suspicion. In the interaction between Luthen and Mon Mothma, you could feel how tense the situation is and how careful someone in Mon Mothma's position has to be. I like the dynamic they set up with Mon Mothma's husband as well, bc it just raises the tension even more. She basically can't even slip up in her own home. Having dinner with Ars Dangor and Sly Moore? Well that should be "fun".....

Also, Coruscant looked amazing. And props to them making it look different from the Coruscant of the prequels. Showing the contrast between a Coruscant under the Republic vs under the Empire is a nice touch.

Giving us a look into the high ranks of the ISB was great. Liked how they showed the difference in what the public (and even those within the Imperial ranks) thinks the ISB does compared to the Major describing what they actually do. And the Major's dismissal of Dedra's concerns was a nice tie-in to what Andor mentioned in regards to the Empire's mindset. I'm interested in seeing how Dedra's character arc plays out.

I felt Andor's introduction to the team was well done. Enjoyed seeing the reaction of the team to Andor joining and the leader's attempt in trying to navigate through their concerns. Not easy having to convince and sell your team on him joining when you yourself aren't fully convinced. She pulled it off well, and comes off as someone who has gained their trust and respect over time. The set-up to the heist makes me excited to see how it will play out.

My only gripe with this show is the format/structure. It doesn't really flow naturally with the traditional weekly episode format. Definitely looking forward to watching it as a whole once the season is over.
Well said. All the elements are so finely crafted that it just comes together in a way where it oozes with atmosphere. It's exceeding my expectations so far.

Good to see you here bro

You too bro. And I like the new AV lmao.

Yeah Luthen Rael is the most interesting new character by far. He make sense of the E4 premise of there being an established rebellion under central leadership. Given the context of the Empire, these guys are terrorists and there's no functional cell without someone like Rael pulling the strings behind the scenes, recruiting and training operatives, collecting human intel, raising funds and doing the ugly stuff in the shadows that allows random X-wing pilots to zoom off and have heroic dogfights with TIE fighters or even operatives like Jyn or Cassian to do their thing in Rogue One. Through Andor's eyes, we're seeing the birth of the Rebellion.

My only gripe with this show is the format/structure. It doesn't really flow naturally with the traditional weekly episode format. Definitely looking forward to watching it as a whole once the season is over.

+1

The show is tremendous but it's not really suited for a weekly serial. They were probably under contract for 12 episodes and had to deliver that, but the episode breaks feel arbitrary and this would have made more sense as 4 x 2 hour episodes or something. As it is, each episode is only 30-35 minutes since they make you stare at the "ANDOR" logo for 5 minutes and there's 6 minutes of credits at the end.

There are AK-47's in the SWU? Are you kidding me?

I noticed that too. Given the effort they've put into this series (and SW vehicles and weapons in general), it seemed off. Makes sense for a fledgling rebellion to use primitive weapons, but a regular AK-47 is just lazy.

As long as we're nitpicking, I think the logo they make you stare at every episode is pretentious. AND OR. It's like a segment from Sesame Street where the robot drags words onto the screen to teach you about conjunctions.

I missed the significance of Ars Dangor and Sly Moore first time watching episode 4 because had never heard of them. But apparently Sly Moore was Palpatine's Chief of Staff and is shown next to him in ROTS - she's the one to his right. In the EU she was referred to as "Queen of the Empire" and was rumored to be Palpatine's lover and mother of his biological son.

Ars Dangor is also part of Palpatine's inner circle. Dude looks like a drunk oompa loompa with a giant condom on his head.

Kind of mindblowing that Mon Mothma's husband just invited two of Palpatine's closest advisors to dinner, and he thinks they're the "fun" guys. That dinner is going to be gold.

This show's premise is massive. Cassian Andor seems to be a random can NPC in a series that's really about the inner workings of the Rebellion and the Empire.

Not much to say about the show so far other than I'm very much liking it.

That is my biggest complaint about it so far. Such a well crafted but for that one thing is preposterously lazy. It immediately took me out of it seeing those

maybe it's one of those primitive fully semi-automatic AK-47 bolt projectile guns - let's see one in action before we get too up in arms (hehe)

Let's not pretend that basing a blaster on a real weapon is something new to the SWU:

Fair enough LOL but at least they tacked some extra shit onto that Mauser pistol. The AK-47 in the last episode looks like they weren't even trying. But if that's their worst offense, I'll take it all day. Everything else in this series is pretty great.

I thought episode 4 did shift a bit though, it maybe didnt have a big action climax to it but the story was moving rather faster and showing us rather more making it more suitable for viewing by itself than episodes 1 & 2.

I do not know what to say except I think as much of a fan of SW Universe I was, I may have outgrown it? Or the writers suck now. I used to LOVE SW Universe and I WANT to love this stuff but I find myself bored as hell. I am only 2 episodes in so I will give it more time. But Boba sucked, Obi-Wan sucked. I know people enjoyed the Mandolorian, and there was some good episodes, but I feel asleep several times as well. Things changed when Disney took over. I do like the animated stuff like the Bad Batch and Clone Wars.

Agree episodes 1 and 2 seemed to wander (after the cold open in the brothel) and we didn't get any real payoff until episode 3. Episodes 1-3 would have felt more organic as a single series premiere episode. But episode 4 takes us back to familiar SW territory - Imperial officers, Rebellion operatives, Mon Mothma, etc. So while it was a slow build, biggest episode 4 payoff was showing us where this series is actually going, which is incredibly ambitious and has me amped for the next episode.

I'm new to this Star Wars thingy... but as I understand it, the base of it is that an oppressive government has cheated their way into power through law... and is now demanding that everyone else fall in line with their excessive demands or else they'll face consequencez.

Is that right? ...because it sounds to me like a modern day documentary of our current timez.

<Neil01>

In my neighborhood... what they call "the rebels" is just being a redneck. Teh fook you mean I gotta comply? We can get gunz too MFer...

...and been developing a damn good start for generationz.

This program seemz like big medicine... that we all will need to add to our decision making processez moving forward.
