International Russia/Ukraine Megathread V8

A 'clockwise' movement. As Russia loses ground in the North, it gains ground in the South (map).

Russia is losing ground on the South too Kherson offensive.

Seems like this is going to go on for much longer than expected

We expected Russia to win back in Feb with a long insurgency lasting years, then we expected a war of attrition when fronts got stabilized, now Ukraine is pushing hard, while Russia is sending everything agastin Bakhmut.

but hey, if Zelensky manages to get NATO (United States) to fire its nuclear missiles at Russia, Ukraine will no longer matter. Zelensky is really gunning for a nuclear war. Biden seems to be taking the bait. Putin is waiting. 3 lunatics will determine if we make it to the end of 2022.

LOL at Zelensky gunning for a nuclear war when its army is kicking ass on the ground.

Zelensky doesn't wants Ukraine nuked, that's all.

Hard to say exactly, but Dzerzhinsky Division seems to be part of National Guard which traditionally very loyal to Putin (even more so than the army or even FSB), but you never know when the tide turns.

I'm sure Putin must be watching his back big time now, things are only going to get worse and no amount of lying and denying will change that. Surely there is some sane people around him that know this and are willing to do whatever it takes to change the course of this debacle Putin has started.

Hey looks like it came from the boat.

And I saw another 40 sec video from the place of fire. I'm telling you, that railway is GONE.

Russian ministry of transportation saying they'll get it fixed for tonight at 8 pm are LYING.

It is obvious that bridge will be at least 4 to 5 weeks out.

like I said as soon as russia said it was a truck bomb I didnt think it was a truck bomb, and if they say they can have it fixed right away that is a lie too, If a Russian official is speaking they are lying...simple as that. And what is in those rail cars? things could still get worse before it get's better for that bridge...Ukraine seems to be a step ahead

Russians are now claiming that the bridge is fixed, which seems a little too quick to be believed…
It's true:

Don't know about the train bridge, afterall it doesn't seem like that was even targeted by a real explosive:

although i can't imagine burning it with fuel for hours is going to be great for the structual integrity

Look they can say we fixed and have automobiles or wagons running. But not because it was actually fixed, but because they are CRAZY. And everyone going through that damage now, risking their own life is a CRAZY person. There's 100% structural damage inside the armor of the concrete holding the railway. Your ego kills you.

A Swedish professor said the following:

The bridge expert: Risky to open the bridge so quickly
That Russia has opened the Kerch Bridge after this morning's violent explosion is seen by Raied Karoumi, professor of bridge construction at KTH.

- I think it's a bit risky. Investigations must be carried out to see how it affected the steel and concrete, he tells Expressen.

He adds that the Swedish Transport Administration would have required both thorough inspections and analyzes and that the bridge would not have been able to open this quickly if it was located in Sweden.

Risky Yes, I think desperate is the better way to put it, If this supply rout get's stopped for Russia that could be a game changer...

Concrete and heat are not friends, concrete can resist explosions but temperature will fuck it up badly since concrete has water molecules in its matrix, it takes a while for the heat to penetrate the concrete due to high thermal mass, i don't know if the bridge has fireproofing, but prolonged exposure to high temperatures will start fucking up the concrete as heat starts penetrating the slab.

If the heat goes long enough the concrete will lose all its compressive strength and fail, that's why the towers could easily take a plane crashing into them but fell when the fire eroded the concrete strength.

So it will depend on whether the concrete was indeed exposed to heat or not, if it wasn't then it will be an easy repair, just change the tracks, if it was you would need to change the whole slab or risk causing a train wreck.

Considering Russia though, they will just repair the track and will continue to use it without testing the concrete.
