Media Dustin Poirier working the bag

Am I the only one who read,"...working the bag" and immediately thought this?

Chandler unlike that bag might hit back

inb4 all the experts talking about haw terrible he is.
Nah it's legit. Only other thing he should work on is different timing, speeds, and patterns. Elite level boxers can change all that and adjust it as they hit bags and as they fight. Still Poirer probably still is the best mma boxer currently in UFC.

Quick and solid/crisp looking technique; but am I wrong, was he throwing from his waist?
You can throw from anywhere. Once you are good enough you can throw punches and hooks from anywhere. For example everyone is taught to pivot your foot for the hook, but in real fights and for real power and being able to throw multiple hooks, you plant both feet. It's all in the hips and the pivot can be skipped and is skipped by high/elite level boxers. That's just an example of how different textbook technique that is taught is different than actual application in fights. For reference you can look at some of boxing best lead hook fighters. Like De La Hoya, Ryan Garcia, Canelo, Tank Davis, etc and watch their feet hitting bags, and watch their feet during fights.

Wouldn’t 90% of those strikes be to the chest of an opponent?

Seems like the bag should be a little higher or lower to be to the head or core.

I guess Chandler is very small though, so they may be head shots
Depends on the opponent but it seems like he is training for Chandler's head level. But yes realistically you should work your punches/strikes for all height levels you may encounter. A lot of fighters/coaches don't understand this concept though.

Funny though, you can almost see his fighting style in his workout: good hands, hits hard, hits fast, but leaves himself open completely

That bag is low level. Any UFC level bag would’ve countered Poirier with a right hook

It's a short vid right? Doesn't show a lot in that context... except impressive handspeed for that effort level, at his age, and not being a hand only combat athlete.

He must be an amazing rhythm puncher, because his position control of the bag was A+. I personally never liked those bags because of the style of puncher I was, but he is so masterful in just those few seconds.

Mad respect. Been a huge pleasure to be entertained by him.
