Ian Gillan (Deep Purple)
Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
Freddie Mercury
Floor Jansen (Nightwish)
Linda Ronstadt
Vibeke Stene (ex-Tristania)
Tarja Turunnen (ex-Nightwish)
Sarah Slean

It's hard to rank singers in any meaningful way. It just ends up being a mess and it's hard to separate the voice from the music.

Some favorites off the top of my head.

Annie Lennox
Tim Buckley
Sam Cooke
Janis Joplin
Ray Charles
Kate Bush
George Michael
Ann Wilson
Etta James
Stevie Nicks

Since the question is about who I would have put in the top 10 not asking about favs, here's my list:

1. Mahalia Jackson
2. Sam Cooke
3. Aretha Franklin
4. Ray Charles
5. Marvin Gaye
6. Etta James
7. Nina Simone
8. Stevie Wonder
9. Wilson Pickett
10. Donna Summer

It's impossible to not include this voice.... People get caught up with bigger stars without realizing how insane his voice is.

On stage, of course, everyone is singing harmony with him. But I'm pretty sure in studio he did all the harmonies himself. Michael Anthony is the only one who comes to mind who could sing those high harmonies like that. Just amazing.

Is this really 'your favourite singers?'
Although i'm not into his music i'd put Tom Jones as the greatest male Rock/Pop singer of all-time.
Then Aussie, John Farnham.
Maybe Freddie.
Robert Plant from his Zeppelin days.
Paul Rodgers.

No auto-tune in those days. Pretty amazing vocals.

Ella Fitzgerald
Howlin’ Wolf
Prince
Joni Mitchell
Bob Dylan
Billie Holliday
Nat King Cole
John Lennon
Buddy Holly
Bing Crosby
Lucinda Williams

It’s all subjective. I don’t give a damn about technical prowess. Don’t @ me to argue.

I agree it's purely subjective. Great choices by the way.
