Shogun, Glover, and Fedor have all gotten their asses handed to them in their retirement fights. Is it time to just tell fighters to ride peacefully into the sunset? Give them a severance check rather than a fight check and save them the dignity of sniveling rats on karate forums celebrating their losses.

Fights make money. Retirement fights draw more than regular fights. So they wont be banned, even though its a dumb premise anyway.

I think it's their own decision.

I was going to say this too. Who am I to tell another grown man what he should or should not do. He wants one more shot at glory and winning, so be it. He wants one more shot at walking to the cage/ring enjoying the crowd, soaking it in, etc..... even knowing he's gonna catch a beatdown, so be it.

Can you make a retirement fight that was glorious? Where someone went out on a win? Even Handy for ktfo in his last fight.

Well if you don't allow fighters to have a last fight, the fight before last becomes the last fight and is not allowed, and then the fight before that and so on until you get to the first fight which is now also the last fight and not allowed so you have to not let people fight at all

It doesnt matter. As long as it gets the butts in the seats.

Define "retirement fight"? Some aging fighter says "This will probably be the last time in the cage" and suddently he's forced to retire? Fedor wasn't supposed to win his last fight, either. If he had beaten Bader, this wouldn't have been a retirement fight. So you're asking someone to have a crystal ball and know in advance when fighters will retire.

It's just, even planning a retirement fight is admitting you're too old to do it anymore. And fighting isn't patty cake. You're gonna go out there and take real damage knowing you didn't have a chance in the first place. Just seems nonsensical to me but again, I'm not a fighter,

Ha, exactly! There are plenty of "one and done" guys who only had one MMA fight. Since we don't know who they will be, we'll have to ban all fights.

The thread is a failure and makes no sense. That said, the only thing promotions can do is cut fighters earlier. The Fedors, BJ Penns, Tony Fergusons, Ken Shamrocks, etc. But then another promotion may pick them up. Bellator picked up a lot of old HWs from the UFC, for example. Guys like Roy Nelson and Mir really didn't need to fight any more.

It's up to them when they think they should be done fighting. Khabib is the best example. Smashed everyone and retired on top. Of course, he still caught shit for "retiring too early".

I'm just a buttblasted Fedor fan, brother.
He didn't need to go out like that.

Either you fight until you're out of prime and get beaten (often in brutal fashion) = you were never my friend or any good. Or you retire in your prime without losing = you ducked and left before fighting the new crop of upcoming top guys.

And this isn't aimed at TS, just an observation. I agree that it's hard to watch the ghost of a once great fighter get knocked out or brutalized.

Dont ban them, because the fighters and everyone wants to watch. You either give them an opponent they can beat, or if not, you tell the opponent to lay of the gas for 3 rounds minimum.
