Jones biggest flaw is his terrible boxing.

We know for a fact that Jones have crappy boxing but this is MMA and wrestling is one of the most powerful tool.
Pretty much all MMA fights have very bad boxing. Some have good kickboxing like Izzy, Alex, Gane. Heck even nganou boxing was very bad.
If Gane manage to keep Jones on the feet he wins hands down, but will he be able to keep the fight on the feet...?

Crazy how he never developed a decent jab. Oh well, doesn't matter now. He will have to wrestle the shit out of everyone in the HW div

I dont see Jones wrestling working, but i've been wrong before.

On feet Jones will have teouble.

Only some ebows or knees I can see possibly working for Jones because of constant threat of takedown. But Gane is very good at elbows and knees.

This is a pretty big improvement in boxing to what we seen from him in the past. He trained a lot more boxing when he got kicked from Jackson.

Gane is a Muay Thai guy. His hands aren't anything special.

Boxing also isn't just about offense. Jones is one of the most defensively responsible / least hit fighters in MMA history. Even during fights where his offensive boxing was questionable, he showed very good instincts, distance management and elusiveness.

Even if you have better offensive boxing than him, it doesn't mean you're gonna hit him.

He looks slow and pillowfisted, nothing has changed. He is barely better than Tito as a boxer.

No, he isn't. You are living in the past. The last time Jones absorbed less than 20sig.strikes in a fight was 10 years ago against Sonnen. In his last fight alone Jones absorbed 116 sig.strikes.

Jones has terrible boxing he overextends on his punches and his boxing footwork is poor. If Gane can negate the kicks and force. The boxing Jones may struggle
There's no such thing as overextending lol. But yeah Jones boxing could be a lot better. He needs to stop by a legit boxing gym and get some sparring training with high level boxers/coaches.

In a fight it's not hitting pads, it's not about looking textbook perfect. Distance, range, and your opponents movement/footwork make a big difference. This is why the actual boxing techniques in a real fight look different than pad work or textbook perfect technique. You have to "overextend" to connect at specific angles/distant/range and moments in a fight. If you are worried about having perfect technique you will miss the majority of your shots and will be fighting like a robot.

Ever notice the majority of the textbook perfect technique fighters/coaches don't have any punching power or understand how to get KOs? They are mostly point fighters. Coincidence? I think not.

The bigger issue now is he is fighting a taller opponent who is naturally larger with long reach as well. Jones has always struggled with these types who are harder for him to takedown. Also his takedown game has been poor and on the decline in the past years.

Why worry about boxing when you can kick a guys knees backwards, take them down, and elbow them in the face?
Because better boxing is usually how you beat muay thai and kickboxing based fighters. It's what most fighters exploit vs muay thai and kickboxers that don't focus much on their boxing.

You are seeing a lot of examples of it happening now over at ONE now that the level of competition is expanding. Lots of fighters are losing in kickboxing and muay thai to fighters with better boxing along with their muay thai and kickboxing styles.

If Dominic Reyes could stuff Jones takedowns I'm sure Gane will be able to.

Jon's fights are always at kicking range, and he is always the better kicker and has the wrestling threat if anyone wants to play his game. I don't see why he can't just kick at Gane's legs and mix in some clinch work for 5 rounds, and the boxing (which isn't as bad as people make it out imo) doesn't come into play much.
It's just like the 2nd Gustaffson fight, you don't just put your hands on Jon when he can kick better than you. Ciryl can kick too, but like I said there's a threat of the takedown, and Jon is probably better at it.

Jones boxing is not bad, it is just not amazing, and his best standup has always been his kicks, which he throws for volume. Very few MMA fighters have great boxing. This fight comes down too how well team cejudo trains jones and if he has not lost too much. Team cejudo will be in his corner, so this fight if team cejudo is as good as they think, should go to wrestling. He needs to chain wrestle and do every time he is in the standup, and take it off the feet for a comfortable win, all things given. The grappling alone will tire out any non wrestler. He is also much better than Tito in boxing, the comment is astounding.

you really think Jones is going to stay on his feet and find out whether hes able to strike with Gane? no chance, ganes getting taken down and smashed ASAP.

That was the case in his last two fights specifically because they utilized a kicking strategy which stifled Jones range management and made him more hittable.

Even then, these guys are very seldomly hitting him clean. It's almost all glancing blows. Which has been the case throughout his career.

Placing such absolute authority on stats is foolish. The fights tell a very different story.

And yes. He is. Jones is one of the least hit fighters in MMA history. Reading comprehension is your friend here, I'm obviously talking about all time.

In regards to his boxing, a lot has changed. When compared with his previous fights. Doesn't mean he's a world beater with his hands, but he's shown marked improvement.

Ya, but Muy Thai and kickboxing don’t allow takedowns.

Mighty Mouse didn’t use better boxing to beat Rodtang. He took him down and submitted him.
