Movies Taxi Driver…

I would say check out King of Comedy but if you dont like Taxi driver I'm not sure if you'd like the former either.

Those are the two Deniro movies I like to point out when people say he doesnt have any range. They are both good companion films for each other with similarities but very different main characters.

Listen, you fuckers, you screwheads. Here is a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the cunts, the dogs, the filth, the shit. Here is a man who stood up!

I watched that scene, frame by frame, maybe 200 or 300 hundred times in film school while writing a paper on it. Pretty enlightening when you realize how every camera placement, movement, framing, editing pace decision, etc is all meticulously and intentionally aimed at subtly getting you inside Travis’s warped mind for a moment.

There’s a few scenes in film history like the pyscho shower kill and this scene that everyone knows and it’s mostly because they are some of the best directed scenes ever.

I think that line speaks for many who think the same thing but don't act on it. Travis is their hero in that respect.

It's good, but it's certainly not as accessible as its hype may lead one to believe.

I like it and it's an important movie as far as the history of cinema goes, but I can understand why some people don't

props to my man Greyboy for a dope sample intro on one of the dopest hip hop jawns ever made

Really its a good example of how cinema has changed I'd say that such a film could break though into the mainstream.

A lot of people probably grow up these days basically watching nothing but easy to consume entertainment.

Basically its a relatively arty slow paced drama which broke though into mainstream culture and I suspect that means people like the OP end up watching it thinking its going to be an easy to consume entertainment thriller.
Its such a longing look back to a time when mainstream Hollywood actually filmed avantagarde fantastic deep beautiful movies and had an educated audience willing to engage in a movie. When I look back what was shown in the cinema in the 70s its like 30iq points higher than nowadays. Normal people were going to a Woody Allen "blockbuster", the Godfather.....etc.

Yes and no. You'll still get the occasional art house flick here and there that breaks through, like "Drive" for instance. There was definitely more opportunity back then, though, and film makers today who do make some noise with some more off beat shit, like a Rian Johnson, get scooped up by the big studios real quick, and trade their creative freedom for the big bucks.

Wtf! This movie sucks. It’s really slow and doesn’t make a lot of sense. Why does this have such great reviews? I can’t believe I watched the whole thing
One of my all time favorites and helped me through some difficult times. I could see how certain people wouldn't be able to get it though. Women particularly and anyone who's had a healthy social life. It's not about them, it's about how the modern world alienates a lot of men and makes them feel invisible and meaningless. I always say, I laugh about that stage I was at now but I wasn't really laughing then.

The thought of this broad brings back all kinds of teenage feelings I will tell you.

Even better in the last picture show. Not a "real" actress at all but that wasn't noticeable amazingly.

She was enough like the woman she portrayed, blond, waspish and well integrated into society. In the dvd Extras she also seems like enough of a prude as to be like the character. Oddly, she wasn't really a wasp, I mean, not to my mind, not if she was a southerner, which she was.

She claims she taught Elvis how to eat pussy, she's a liar about that I'm sure.

I can see why people may not like it if you watch it today. It's not my favorite movie, but I can recognize that it's a great movie.

A lot of movies (especially in the 80's and 90's) paint this overly romantic picture of NYC, but Taxi Driver nailed the dark and dirty side of NYC - that's what it probably did the best job of.

Movies like this are never going to be universally loved though, it's very unique and comes down to taste. For example - I really disliked Banshees of Inisherin, I thought it was insanely boring and not funny whatsoever - but I accept that it was just not my taste. Whereas movies like Dark Knight, LOTR, Goodfellas, etc. are probably going to be loved universally.

Ironically, that stupid New York, New York musical scorcese deniro made is unwatchable to me.

Im a massive movie buff and thought it was one of the worst movies Ive ever seen and Im not the least bit joking

I find a lot of older movies tend to automatically get high ratings/reviews but are in actualality ass and if came out today wouldnt even make it to theaters, straight to DVD
