Daniel Cormier: You fight Volkanovski, you guys are supposed to be fighting for the number one pound for pound, you win, he stays number one, and then Jon Jones comes back, and now Jon Jones is number one. What is this?
Islam Makhachev: This is bull****. How Jon Jones can be number one. He beat some guy who is not champion. This guy don't have belt and they put him number one pound for pound. This is bull****
Daniel Cormier Maybe because he beat him so fast.
Islam Makhachev: Doesn't matter how he beat him. Yes UFC put him best pound for pound, but other people, other MMA, who know about MMA, they know who is the best fighter in the world. Don't call me lightweight champion. Call me pound for pound best fighter.

Thoughts?

My man went from being unranked in the pfp list (his last win before Charles was Bobby Green btw) to ranked like number 2 just by beating Charles <45><45><45>
Leon was number 3 after beating the pfp 1 at that time. How does that make sense? And he arguably lost to Volk and his performance was underwhelming. Still talking about pfp.

That would mean Dominick Reyes is Jan Blachowicz's son, who is Glover Teixeira's son, who is Jon Jones' son. So Jon Jones is his own great great grandfather
Islam is Adrianos son, who is Cerrone's son, who is Till's son, who is Brunson's son, who is Izzy's son, who is Blachowicz's son, who is Glover's son, who is Jon Jones's son. So Islam is Jon Jones' Great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson simple genealogy Islam is speaking ill of ancestors I don't like it.

So, by his logic JBJ, who was the LHW champ for 9 years with 13 title defenses and who moved up to HW and won the HW Belt can not be P4P because he got the title in an title eliminator against Gane BUT he himself, who only has won one belt but also from an title eliminator (Charles was not champ) and then defended the belt exactly 1x against a FW, deserves to be P4P?

Guys, in all honesty, you don't need to be a hater to understand that he is just talking out of his ass and it stinks + the fact that DC is mostly agreeing with him is another reason why I cannot take Cormier serious...

He didn't fail any drugs tests or duck the reigning HW champion though.

Unfortunately I just can't jive with this. The UFC'a P4P ranking has always felt more like accomplishment than an actual up to date skill assessment (which is the whole point of the silly concept). So Jones being active and a champion means he just gets it, period.

And even if we were to make it an updated, 'who is the most skilled fighter for their size,' is it certain that Islam would be #1 then either? LHW Joey Maxim beat MW Sugar Ray when Sugar tried challenging up. Guess who's remembered as the pound for pound great?
