They even start fighting among each other (HHJ has been the victim of such attacks) if one of them dares to say something neutral (not negative) which doesn't immediately indicate that he isn't the greatest fighter and human being who ever lived.

You also have to be very careful with their statements as they might and will change, add or leave out facts if it somehow helps their argumentation. For example, somebody else best win might be a can or has been if they need to discredit them, while the win over the same person might be a great trophy for kabib or the people around him. They are very cheeky when it comes to protecting their boay.

Volkanovski's resume is greater, but he does have a loss against Islam, through many think it was a loss that made Volk look better.

Had Khabib challenged Usman and brought the fight to him and ended The fight on top of Usman, smashing him, but lost a 3-2 decidion, would we think more or less of him?

Depends on how you count "greater/better". Khabib is 13-0 in the UFC with 3x title defenses. Volk is 13-1 in the UFC with 5x title defenses.

Some people highly value Khabib being undefeated, but I personally think less of Khabib for not moving up to 170 and challenging for that title. Alex on the other hand did move up in weight, and very nearly won that fight. Alex also has more title defenses.

If Volk can knock off 2-3 more title defenses at 145, he will very clearly have a greater legacy than Khabib.
