Thank you. We lost a great storyteller when Gordon passed away earlier this year. And then yesterday we lost Robbie Robertson, probably best known as a member of The Band. He put out some beautiful solo material as well like this song. This one's for you

May he rest in peace. This one saddens me. I have difficulty discussing it. I've been listening to so much of his wonderful music these past few weeks. He left us another gift. The soundtrack to the upcoming Scorsese picture Killers of the Flower Moon.

For @StonedLemur. Since you write poetry. This song is about youth and ambivalence.

Saw the Smashing Pumpkins perform it outdoors. Thousands singing every word. Every type of freak under the stars.

Also for @Kryptt, @TempleoftheDog, @Jackonfire, @helax, @Zebra Cheeks, @giovanni_ss, @BroRogan, @HUGHPHUG, @Bobby Boulders, @Hollywood Jack and all other ghouls who love great songs.

Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all

And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below

Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
Morphine city slippin' dues, down to see

That we don't even care, as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope

Justine never knew the rules
Hung down with the freaks and ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it, to see

That we don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below

The street heats the urgency of now
As you see there's no one around

How did you know I liked this sir?
You're a good egg man, knew I liked you from our first interaction.

I love that song. I had that album during its heyday. This is probably my favorite from it:

And this is maybe my favorite song of theirs, overall, a song I wasn't familiar with until the last two years or so (was a little young for Siamese Dream, although, of course I'm familiar with Today and Disarm):

Side note: this probably really my favorite of theirs, though it's credited to them but is really just an Iha solo song with Nina Gordon from Veruca Salt.

They're underrated today. Mellon Collie arguably the best album of the 90s.

Edit: also, that's a lofty group of names with which I was mentioned. And music is honestly my favorite thing about being alive, I'd say 90% of my time spent outside of work is spent with buds in my ears. Thank you for the compliment.

Cheers, PS. When I did my 90 best songs of the 90s thread, I put this song in the honorable mentions playlist. Great song and I listened to that playlist recently and enjoyed it.

Hey thanks for the comments bud. Yeah Melon Collie and Siamese Deream are both amazing records. CherubRock was loud as fuck when I saw them as it should be. What a song. Will check out the other songs you mentioned. I've always considered Malibu by Hole another great Corgan song. Also love his cover of Landslide by Stevie Nicks, another all time great pop sop with deep meaning. Hope you're enjoying the last of summer. Can't wait for the weather here to get cooler and turn into fall. This summer in the southwest we've had record high temperatures and I'm over it.

@PurpleStorm Football on later, UFC tomorrow gonna start 11am my time so that's gonna be breakfast/lunch fighting :Dnot much (new) music atm but if I stumble over anything I'll @ you in the the other thread! Have a nice weekend pal :)

Oh nice. Gonna check out that playlist. I'm on a bit of a 90's music kick lately.

I'm in OKC, we get that heat here too. Gonna be 105 today, fml. We had 109 a few days ago. Not common here, although it's becoming that way.

Malibu is one of my favorite songs. Hole was never a band I was wild about or anything, although I do like some of their earlier stuff, but something about the tone of that song always resonated with me. A noted contrast to their earlier songs, which Courtney wrote with Eric Erlandson. They had their say in Celebrity Skin, but Billy's influence is apparent. He's really a great song writer, probably underrated as such today.

Thanks, man. Here in Boston the temperatures have been pretty mild in August. Too much rain, though. Hopefully fall and especially winter won't be too cold...

Thanks bud, I've always liked that song. Billy Corgan and I used to date sisters. He dated the older one, I was with the younger one. No double dates though, lol. We did shoot hoops in the driveway a couple of times. He was working on recording Gish at the time and that remains my favorite album by them. One New Years Eve many years ago I had an out of body experience listening to this song. It was brief but its stuck with me all these years.

Flower, the pain will wash away, away
When the sun shines
And climbs through your window
Into your bed
When you wake up your own way
Throwing your life away
Softly siren coming home
Siren snail
Yeah that's my home
