Media Israel Adesanya wants Dricus Du Plessis in South Africa

Would be interested to hear from some honest South Africans where the general population would be split along obvious lines; or whether they'd all support their countryman.

It's not Israel's fault that Dricus couldn't make this fight date. He's getting next for sure.

Bingo!
Not sure exactly when, but at some point not generally too long ago fans started getting the impression that a champion should be seeking contenders and fighting around challengers' ideal timeline as opposed to their own.

I don't really get what the problem is. If the choice is to see the champ fight or not fight and wait then it's a pretty simple decision to make as a fan. We know Israel is very active, and takes on all challengers so there shouldn't be an issue.

DDP was out and Izzy is super active. I think Izzy figured he’d take a warm up fight in Strickland and then fight DDP a couple months later lol

DDP literally just fought and wanted a completely sane / normal / standard turn around time for a championship fight.

Izzy did the smart thing and booked a fight with someone who isn't even in line for a title shot, coming off a split stinker and unranked win, after getting brutally KO'd.

Then Izzy's coach made media rounds saying DDP doesn't really deserve or need a title fight lol.

It is what it is.

Israel and UFC wanted the date. If it wasn't Strickland it would have been someone else.

Either way Izzy and his coach have both literally made media rounds saying maybe DDP doesn't deserve it. I really don't know how anyone can talk their way around it, this is what they have both stated publicly.

If you take a gimmie fight with a guy who's not even in line that was crushingly KO'd two fights ago, instead of waiting a few months for the clear #1 contender who is undefeated and just summarily destroyed Whittaker - yeah people are going to have the right to bring it up. This isn't even a controversial thing to say, I'm just describing events as they've happened.

You know what the problem is.

Presumably people feel this way because Driccus is undefeated, clearly the #1 contender, and was skipped over for an obvious and earned title shot, so Izzy could take a gimmie fight with someone that got MURDERED by Poatan and is coming off an unranked win and a split stinker.

The goal of prize fighting is finish your career with the least damage and most money, so I do not hold this against Izzy. The fact does remain he took a gimmie fight and had his coach try and talk their way out of fighting Driccus all together.

Skipped over? Dricus was injured. He pulled out of the card. How was he skipped over?

Israel usually fights about every 5 months. This date and time is pretty standard for him activity wise. Don't worry Dricus is getting the next shot.

He should ask for this fight in his home country, South Africa is crime ridden and China is much safer to host an event.

Thats what happens if you are an active champ.

Would u prefer he sits and waits like other champs?

Izzy better stop talking about DDP before Sean ends up spoiling the party.

No one will honestly care if Izzy loses there, so all the pressure will be on Dricus.

Izzy will probably fight Strickland in September then dricus in jan/feb

It's not Dricus fault either, Fighting first week of july against a guy like whittaker and being expected to do a 12 week turn around with an 8 week camp is just unrealistic.
I didn't say it was but the poster I responded to had made it seems like Israel was somehow in the wrong for not sitting out and waiting to fight him. Dricus has/had an injury to deal with and wouldn't have been able to make the date. UFC and Israel both still wanted the date though and were going to find someone for Israel to fight. If you look since 2015 Israel has had 24 fights. He's insanely active, there's nothing strange or nefarious here taking a fight.
