Makes sense. Little bummed this probably kills the talks of Canelo Crawford.
What will they say about Canelo if he fkn goes on to fight Benavidez & Crawford after Charlo????
You haters are eventually going to have to take your hat off.

This is a controversial take, but if you are going up in weight and fighting the best and much bigger guys (Bivol Benavidez)....I can forgive and forget the whole taco meat scenario.

I often thought MMA fans were often the most fickle, sensitive, and just unfairly criticial.
Then I encountered Mayweather Haters, GGG haters, Manny Pac haters, and now Canelo haters.

there is no appeasing these groups.

Canelo is easily one of the best fighters of the last 10 years. ok, he took a huge risk and fought Bivol and lost. at least he rolled the dice and took a challenge.

and let's get one thing straight, Benavidez gets destroyed by Canelo, in any weight class.

I don't know. Benavidez is a legit threat. I dont think he's as well rounded or talented as Bivol, but Canelo is at the end of his career. Even if he does beat Jermell, Jermell could very well diminish Canelo further. Its an interesting fight.

I wasn't impressed by his fight with Caleb Plant. I was underwhelmed.

that being said, I'm going to place a small wager on Charlo @ +300 .

I think he pulls off the upset here.

I think its only a matter time before the inevitable "Canelo got old overnight." fight.
He's been losing rounds and taking damage in like his last 4 fights. All clear wins, but all showing he may be regressing.
I think Charlo is a very live dog here, so I dont blame you.

The timing of this fight is definitely key for making it interesting.

I think so too. I'm going to pick Canelo but its debatable where Canelo is in his career. Maybe people are a little too hard on him for looking bad against Bivol but he looked bad against Golovkin the 3rd time too. I thought he looked OK against Ryder but not like he did when he fought, say, Saunders.
Charlo has never impressed me much but he's pretty fresh and well rounded.

I think Charlo is talented but imo he has had some kinda bizarre performances.

Even if you think he won the first Tony Harrison fight there were large portions of him being outboxed and even in the second I thought Tony outboxed him until the end. Odd close first fight with Castano. Even a pretty strange fight vs Jackson where he was getting kinda humiliated before catching him

but then you get the great performances like vs Lubin, Rosario, Castano II etc

Canelo might also be slipping so if we get a good Jermell on the night could be an upset

Canelo stopped improving and started focussing on bulking up and increasing his power. I do think that’s been to his ultimate detriment, and that his overall effectiveness has diminished as a result.

But he is surrounded by knowledgeable folks, and I don’t think he is physical declining as much as just shit game planning leading to counterproductive focuses in training .

I also think going up in weight was a horrible idea, he got bigger, slower and has had less flow in his combinations ever since.

If he can regain his Golovkin II form he will crush Charlo... and he can but I haven’t been following his training at all, so we’ll see next weekend. This week is going to last forever :(

I think we are in for a surprise

Fight week!!! Big one to close out the month

I find it amazing that the Canelo PR machine is making it seem that fighting a 2 weight division below guy……a guy who drops rounds like candy and struggled immensely with Tony Harrison and Castãno is somehow a viable candidate.

A guy who can’t win rounds (short of knockdowns / knockouts) Vs a guy who cant lose rounds.
A heavy puncher with an Iron chin Vs a good puncher with a decent chin coming up two goddamn weight classes.

i think its the Undisputed champ vs Undisputed champ that is really the selling point here. never been done before.
Canelo started his career at welterweight so he and Charlo might be more equal physically than it looks like on paper. looking at pics of both of them, Charlo does not look noticeably smaller.
