yeah, we went from art as a combination of skill, ungodly talent and immense amounts of work to art relegated to being just personal expression, therefore somebody scribbling for two minutes with paint on a canvas and calling it something like "Hope of liberation" is therefore art just as the Pieta is art.

Oh, I know there's plenty of beauty to be found in the European countryside(s). I just don't think I'd take an entire trip across the Atlantic to see that specifically; but I mean, I essentially have the Grand Canyon in my backyard and make easy day trips to the south rim and hit the trails whenever I want. It's an incredible privilege that isn't lost on me. On the other hand, there is a rather enormous list of European archeological sites, art museums, and other architectural landmarks that I'd hypothetically love to see and visit one day.

My wife and I spent a couple of days in Brussels in May and decided to go on a 10km walk one day to explore the city. I’ll definitely be doing my research next time because we ended up in the shitty part of town for a long time. I should’ve just spent more time in Bruges.

a large parte of the european landscape, with all that entails is still safe, so if an american wants to visit the beautiful nature of europe, it's still there. but as you said, it's not like america lacks that. it's somewhat fungible.
you could also see lifestyle - the morning life in small italian or french towns, fishing early in the morning in the mediterranean, late greek dinners with dancing and portokalopita and ouzo, so many like this which do indeed make european culture unique.
also unique, the architecture of old in the cities, the art, etc, but to see that, especially in western cities, you have to risk being robbed or even killed by trash that brings ZERO to our civilization and are only here to profit from it and destroy it.
unless we wake up to protect our culture, we are lost.

I'd be more saddened that the Parthenon marbles are in the possession of the British Museum; or that Nike of Samothrace is in the Louvre; or that Turkey has several magnificent works based on Alexander - the GOAT human according to myself, @Fox by the Sea and many others - that would look a lot better in Greece. If it makes you feel any better, the Acropolis is probably the #1 (cultural) world heritage site on my bucket list -- even higher than the Pyramids, Colosseum, Angkor Wat, Taj Mahal, Great Wall, or Machu Picchu.

I sometimes wish I could show foreign tourists - many of whom travel practically halfway around the world to get here - around the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.
