I stumbled across a cool picture today of Khabib and Yaroslav Amosov from the 2014 Combat Sambo Championships in Russia.

The two undefeated fighters with the most wins in MMA history.

Ironically, Amosov had just won the bracket of Khabib's cousin, Abubakar.

Maybe someday we will be lucky enough to see Yaroslav face Islam at 170 lbs in the UFC.
I hope they both keep winning.

Nice.

Amosov beats Islam at 170 imo and Islam might be the best LW ever.

I think Amosov is arguably the best WW right now. If not, at least toughest fight for Islam at 170. I don't see Islam beating Amosov, though I can see Islam beating Colby and Leon. All tough fights though.

No need to see him against Islam, there are already monsters in the 170
He looks like a type of guy that would get fucked in the UFC

sambo is the best base for mma

Amateur MMA is probably the best base for MMA using your logic, it's just Sambo as a competitive sport was far more established than MMA so it served as a better amateur scene but...things are changing, amateur MMA is getting way more prevalent and relevant world wide now.

Plus casuals have no idea how many Sambo world champs rinse out of MMA, Muin Gafurov this last weekend was a 2x Sambo world champ. There's some Dagestanis with several world championships who didn't make it out of the regionals. But I still agree, Combat Sambo is a very good base and with national tournaments, world championships, regional tournaments etc. It's on average more competitive and structured than most amateur MMA scenes still. Some Sambo tournaments are now in rings without Gis and are literally just amateur MMA though.

Amosov vs Islam would be a cracker of a fight. Hard to predict that one. I think Islam is better standing than Yaroslav, however, it could be a nasty clinch, grappling battle.

wtf, sambo without a gi is just mma. The gi + shorts combo is part of sambo's identity!

Yaroslav just turned 30 and all you smooth brains beg for the UFC to sign 37 year old Michael Page, the fans are one of the biggest issues with the sport.
You know it's almost like there's more than 3-5 people on this forum that don't all share the same exact opinions. Or people that know MVPs time to step foot in the octagon is closing quickly while Yaro should still have a lot of time

Wild to think about

Wait what's the problem with Signing MVP? That guy is one of the most exciting fighters in the world. Yaroslav dominates.. but I don't get hyped to watch his fights the same way I do with MVP. Yaroslav has 2 finishes in Bellator.. Sure he's Elite and world class.. but MVP by far will make the bigger fights. Plus he's 36 not 37.

It would be amazing.
Amosov is the more decorated sambist and both are succeeded at the highest levels in MMA. Very similar size and skillset.
Amosov has a sambo wins over Abubakar and Shamil Zavurov, but also has a loss to Ikram Aliskerov, so there's tons of history between him and Abdulmanap School.

That and the ability ippon, pin and no closed guard. It's a pretty exciting ruleset and the jacket allows for some great throws we rarely see in MMA.

Too bad he never dared to come with USADA.

Now that UFC will not reconduct USADA, he might try...

Amosov would be a contender and potentially champion. I hope they sign him if Bellator folds. He's ten times more interesting than MVP.

Not sure he can make LW though.
