My issue with adding a lot of guys like the Dagestanis or Poatan is that they're amazing in one area. Sure, that area makes them successful, but it's still a glaring hole.

Strikers failed to defeat Khabib in MMA
Grapplers failed to defeat Pereira in MMA

MMA is MMA, anything goes even 1 punch no skill lucky knockouts

This list is full of Johnny Come Lately's

Even if we assume the longer MMA exists, the more skilled the fighters will get, there's still way too much representation from modern guys

Exactly. When someone says most skilled it makes me think of a well rounded fighter who can do well anywhere, not a guy who is exceedingly good at one area

The post is not about most well rounded, but best.

"Which guy would consistently win 1-vs-1 fights against anyone in their weight class, past or present"

Comments:
Jones does not belong on the HW list, he has 1 win.
Prime Penn at 155 was a monster
Dricus Du Plessis...not yet, he has not beaten anyone
Umar...not yet, let him fight a legit top 5 guy.

When it comes to pure skill, add these two studs to LW:

BJ Penn

Charles Oliviera

Ciryl Gane's beat the sluggers Tai Tuivasa and Derrick Lewis. These guys are huge brawly 1 punch KO dudes you would meet at the bar.

Ciryl Gane also beat tall dude with reach Alex Volkov and almost beat Ngannou with crazy KO track record.

Jon Jones finished Ciryl Gane in 2 minutes. Enough said

BJ Penn - amazing reaction time.
Charles Oliveira - amazin BJJ with striking.

But both Khabib and Islam are levels above

Name any 4 fighters in history who would beat: Fedor, Jon Jones, Aspinall, Ngannou

Fedor and Stipe are the only 2 who belong on that list. Prime Cro Cop was a scary dude in his prime. Cain and DC were solid fighters who could fight anywhere the fight went. Jones only has 1 win at HW against a guy who just lost to Francis and was handed a fake title. Gane was nothing but a hype job coming into the Francis fight.

No Matt Hughes at WW? I would bet a prime Rich Franklin would beat Sean Strickland. Every fighter on your lists are all modern fighters.

LW - TBD. Hard to find good talent as Striking requires a strong midsection and thus more weight.

Here are some decent competitors though:
