Economy Oakland's Only In-N-Out Restaurant Closed Down For Good Due to Crimes.

I’m in Oakland right now. Heard about the in and out closing cause employees cars were getting robbed while they worked.

I was also out in the parking garage of the hotel I’m working at smoking a joint and drinking some beers when I heard a crash of what sounded like ice hitting the ground after sliding off a roof. I looked down to the street to see someones legs hanging out of the side of a car as the guy was searching for stuff to steal after smashing out the windows while his getaway ride was waiting. I also got to see the victim come out and discover that he was robbed.

I’d like to add that the victim has gotten his windows replaced and they are intact for now. Part of me also feels this wasn’t random as the getaway car was a white bmw and the car that got its windows smashed was a white bmw. The thieves also didn’t seem to retrieve anything of value as they left empty handed minus a few pieces of paper that were discarded.

There are some redeeming qualities in Oakland. Fox Theater is an awesome venue to see music at. It's also full of fire breweries - Sante Adarius, Cellarmaker, Ghost Town, Original Pattern, and a bunch of other decent ones.

The only solution they had was to make it a bulletproof in n out but that sort of thing is terrible for a brands image popeyes looked ghetto after doing it.

nine robberies, two commercial burglaries, four domestic violence incidents and 1,174 car break-ins

So there's been a car break in every week for EIGHTEEN YEARS?

1174 / (18 * 365.25) = 0.179 break ins PER DAY, for EIGHTEEN years.

Oakland criminals in contention for Goat Status

I need to go to California and try one of them burgers. Shit must be amazing even Popeyes ain't got that much street cred

I have friends who haven’t reported car break-ins, they just sucked it up and got their car window fixed.
So I would guess that it actually happened considerably MORE often than that.

lol.. people are delusional

Disinvestment makes crime-ridden areas worse, not better. The idea that a community needs to "deserve" investment is an absurdity that perpetuates multiple types of discrimination. Personally I'd rather it not be this way, but businesses have a lot more pull with alleviating these sorts of problems than people putting forth ideologies.

Oakland had a program that reduced violent crime (particularly firearm murders) by like 43%. That program was gutted over time and there aren't tons of high-power people attempting to leverage the revitalisation of such programs and initiatives that have had historical success. Oakland crime was worse at some points in the 80's and 90's, as well as around 2012 when the program began.

The highest I've ever seen Oakland on any list of most dangerous cities was 11th, with the majority of the top 10 being in the South. But Oakland sure gets a ton of media attention as opposed to all those other cities, including more dangerous cities in Cali by certain metrics.

True, Oakland likely gets the spotlight being so close to San Francisco. I've been to New Orleans a few times and you don't want to get too far away from Bourbon Street. I like Baton Rouge much better...

And lol at Pueblo being worse than Oakland.. the fuck? Things must have really changed there since I moved away from Colorado in 2005

Maybe the crime in Oakland is concentrated in smaller specific areas?

RankCityCrime cost per capita

I hate this whole trend too... Businesses fleeing does no one any good and makes the situation worse. More and more people with the means to leave will do so... making the situation worse.

How does it turn around? Smarter people than me will have to figure that out.

Shit holes get what they deserve. Although this is a good opportunity for a local independent business to move in and I'm sure the clientele will be respectful of it...
I used to buy stuff from these machinist brothers, they owned a shop they inherited from their father in Oakland. As soon as the father died, the sons moved the shop to another city that's when I met them. They said there was a guy in their Oakland neighborhood who bred pit bulls and he'd rent them out to business'. The guy would take dogs to these business' and have them roam all night long then go pick them up in the morning. They said it was common for the industrial shops, mechanic places, etc.

True.

My Dad's car once got broken in because some idiots must have thought his $10 rectangular seat cushion must have looked like a laptop.

He just had the windows replaced, disn't file a report since nothing valuable were lost that day.

The console change thieves were the funniest. That's a big risk to take for $1.75 in nickles and quarters.

Chic Fil A plays it smart and really looks at the demographics in the area they put their establishments and this crap doesn't happen.
My understanding is that they charge a lot less to open up a franchise compared to other chains but they exert much more control over how the franchise is run. One aspect of that is that you don't get to choose your own location.

Don't worry, Oakland is still highly desirable. Go ahead and pull up Zillo and take a look at what a place with bars on the windows and a cage over the front door goes for in Oakland. Folks aren't leaving because they closed In and Out.

Most of Oakland is awesome.

Oakland's only In-N-Out restaurant closing due to crime

In-N-Out Burger closing Oakland location in March due to 'unsafe environment'

By Pilar Arias

A Bay Area In-N-Out Burger location is going to be shutting its doors due to crime.

The restaurant is the only one in Oakland, California. The company told FOX Business that regular car break-ins, property damage, theft and armed robberies of customers and employees led to the decision to shut down.

"We are grateful for the local community, which has supported us for over 18 years, and we recognize that this closure negatively impacts our Associates and their families," Chief Operating Officer Danny Warwick said in a statement. "Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and wellbeing of our Customers and Associates – we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment."

The Oakland Police Department did not immediately respond to an inquiry about crime reports at the business, but data collected by the San Francisco Chronicle shows nine robberies, two commercial burglaries, four domestic violence incidents and 1,174 car break-ins.

A current employee told the newspaper thieves busted open her car windows last year.

The last day customers can buy burgers, fries and shakes at the Oakport Street location is March 24. It has been operating for 18 years, KRON reports.

Current employees will be able to work at other nearby locations or receive a severance package, In-N-Out said.

Remaining restaurants nearby are in Alameda, San Leandro, Union City and San Ramon, according to KTVU Fox 2.

Damn those White Supremacists and all that crime they commit…
