Social Shane Gillis to host SNL this weekend.

It's called capitalism. A controversial no name comedian does nothing but hurt your bottom line. A controversial high profile comedian helps bring eyes. Him being hired and fired also helped his career immensely it drew in a bunch of right wingers to his side only for them to realize he was making fun of most of them. "Cancelled" people don't get Netflix specials last I checked
As opposed to which economic system? The ones that have a department of jokes in the ministry of culture?

EVERYONE they hire is a no name. That's like the entire point of the show, to find the funniest no names and make them famous and try to play career maker. They attempted to cancel him, and found out the hard way that they're no longer the king makers, and he's now more popular than anyone on their show because of, you guessed it, capitalism.

Shane is one Rogan's funniest friend - in fact, him, Normand and Morril are his best regulars - though I do fucking LOVE when he has ari, segura and bert on. they're just acting like a bunch of big kids and it's fun to listen to.
I wish he had Theo on when he had those guests as well...

They did. You didn't get the bit. Because you're dumb.

Lmao this dude literally wants a satire sign at the botton of the screen so he can keep up.
I didn't watch the bit. I already said above I know nothing of these guys. I'll get around to it later if I feel like it. I'm just not as emotionally invested in this as you and I'm selective with my clicks.

I'm going by articles at the time and what this dude said publicly. Think about the reason for that for a minute before replying, please.

One of SNL funniest bits is the Word Association Skit with Pryor and Chase....Muppets heads would explode if they did that bit now and it wasn't offensive at all.

Its funny because the morning radio show I listen too were doing a bit about the guy who started Fazoli's (Italian chain restaurant) is a Japanese guy which started in Kentucky.
So of course they do the Japanese voice and then the Kentucky voice making jokes about it. It is funny on the surface when you put all the pieces together.
So then about an hour later, they were complaining about people texting in saying the voices were offensive. Here is the crazy part, the Kentucky crowd was complaining as much as the Japanese crowd. BTW nothing they said was overtly racist, it was just jokes about the craziness of a Japanese guy starting an Italian restaurant chain in Kentucky which makes it easy to create a bunch of jokes
Yes people are too fucking sensitive.

lol.. There's a fantastic 5 star Thai restaurant in my neighborhood that's highly rated.. run by a white couple. My step-son worked there in college and my daughter in HS is working there now. They're amazing owners. No one cares they're white and they would laugh if someone made similar jokes about a white couple running a Thai restaurant.

People have to realize it's a small, but extremely vocal minority... So vocal that it seems they have far more influence than they actually have. Wish everyone would learn to ignore them and stop giving them attention and press. It's what they live for... They'd wither and go away if they didn't get the attention they're craving.

The kind of people who love putting companies on blast on yelp. lol...

The Right forgets that the origins of cancel culture has its roots in Overly Religious Moms crying about the violence in video games and certain kinds of music in the 90's. Although they failed miserably back then to get any traction.

I'm Conservative, but the authoritarian Right pisses me off as much as the authoritarian Left.

I agree in a private setting. If you are just telling jokes to your friends, who really cares.

Just speaking for myself - I would never say offensive things publicly though in front of people who don't know me personally, like on the job or to random people on a subway - that seems like a recipe for disaster lol.. but, in the USA, I think its protected as long as its not considered to be a threat or incitement.
That's an important aspect to this. When I was younger I used to think offensive jokes were ok around people who knew me because they know all about me and I had no ill intent. But then it occurred to me that others might overhear who don't know me, and thereby choose not to ever; and I also realized these people to whom I was telling the jokes might go on to tell others and perhaps that could lead to unintended consequences so I decided I just didn't want to. Others can choose to do differently. It's not up to me, but I'm not surprised when it doesn't work out well for them while I don't much care if it gets a laugh.

When it comes to comics the context and setup counts for a lot. It's unfortunate that in this day and age of almost nothing disappearing off the internet ever, it's easy to delete that context and setup to paint something as offensive. But I believe it's just a symptom of a fast-changing world and people will adapt to be more careful in their judgements with time. SNL doesn't have that luxury, however. It's a 50+ year old show on a dying medium. They can't afford a mass exodus because some tool said ch double ink.

I'd watch SNL again if they brought back racist jokes and fired all the female comedians.
I watch it because they got a non binary and they let us know it’s a non binary over and over and over I’m so proud. Today my son and I did our weekly tears for joy cry, and this what my 6 year old wanted to talk about.

You post shit from people like this all the time. Hilarious.

I mean he was saying some pretty offensive things in that video. I wouldn’t cancel him over it, but the guy he was talking about was a massive douchebag racist who is hard to defend.

The L and R swapping thing is Japanese anyways, not Chinese. I’m sure that distinction is lost on them though

L and R issue is not exclusive to Japanese. I talk like that to my chinese friends. Like an asian N-word pass.

I think it's all just a stupid game that people play.

Basically everyone has made racist jokes or used racist slurs in their lifetimes. The people who revoked Shane's job offer have they themselves made racist comments in their past and they decided to punish Shane for it because the difference is that there is no evidence of their comments while we have evidence of his.

It's basically one giant game of hypocrisy. Yeah it's stupid to say offensive stuff in public but the people who are offended have also said offensive things in their lifetimes as well. But they give themselves a pass for it while punishing others.

I'm pretty sure at the time, SNL was not fully staffed with people who have never made a racist comment in their lifetimes. So was SNL against people who make racist comments or only against people who publicly make racist comments?

theo is hilarious in a podcast setting - so many hilarious sound bites

his standup i'm not sold on to be honest.
He's not the same on his Netflix specials...he just doesn't seem in his element, But I've seen him in Nashville and Kentucky and he kills the stage. If you ever get a chance give him a try I don't think you'll regret it.

From what I’ve watched he’s pretty meh to me. But at least he does have a relatively normal haircut unlike some of his collegues.

Agreed... he's not as good when he's has a planned out show.

He's comedy gold when he's free wheeling and making up stories like they're real.

When he's on a podcast, telling stories, you know 90% of his stuff is completely fabricated... but his childhood was so fucked, you're not completely sure

I'm here to talk shit and have fun in the war room. It'd be pretty boring otherwise.

It's why I voted for IDrankYourbeer... or whatever his username is, as my favorite poster of the year. Dude is a top tier, relentless, shit poster... and very entertaining.

I don't talk any politics in day to day life.

Don't get me wrong I'll tell somebody to go fuck themselves, but that's not ragin...its righting retardation sir lol.

I think Gillis is funny and a shame he did not make the show, but probably worked out better for him.
I will make life a lot easier on you, both side are full of idiots, and once you reach that point, it gets harder for rage porn peddlers to keep you enraged.
I think the MAGA wing of the GOP are fucking morons and I think the commie, 105 gender wing of the Left are fucking morons as well.
It is dumb to cancel a comedian, song or even a TV show. The best way is to dont consume it.
MAGA fans will throw a beer can at you if you make fun of Dear Leader.

That comedian chick handled it well, she's awesome.

And a hypocrite.

What a charming individual. No wonder I hold you in such..... not esteem; what's that other word I'm looking for? Oh yeah, contempt. That's it. I find you entirely contemptible and a garbage person.

Well, I'm glad we could straighten that out.
