The numbers speak for themselves, I've never watched a PPV specifically for a flyweight fight. I know there's a fanbase for small weight classes but it's a minority among hardcore fans let alone casuals.
Mighty mouse is a great fighter and bummer he had that sort of treatment but I've never been interested in his career.

i feel bad for dj, but i also understand where ufc was coming from. it’s a business, and the compensation must be tied to the amount he brings in. ufc could have justified paying him more than he was worth on grounds that he was establishing a new division. in other words, his value to the company was long term. i also think ufc did him dirty by limiting his ability to make money on sponsorships (along with everyone else, when the reebok deal dropped).
maybe it would have been best for ufc to work with dj on how to build fan interest. he was not good at it. they did throw some solid hype behind him (just like they did with francis), but it just didn’t catch on. at least dj can rest assured his record won’t be broken for a long time.

i think Mighty Mouse and UFC fucked up there. at the time he was champion streaming was just taking off, the UFC AND HIMSELF should've heavily promoted himself as a gamer who happens to be the best P4P fighter in the world. get paid to help promote new games, new consoles, gaming accessories like a xbox and UFC hotdog brander collab, or maybe a Xyience for gamers so they can game for +12hrs without dying from starvation. the opportunities were endless.

that's my whole fuckin point. it doesn't have a gamer fanbase because THEY'RE NOT APPEALING TO THE GAMERS. yet they still make UFC video games and a bunch of fighters stream on twitch. seems like a no brainer to connect the 2 but UFC is ran by a bunch of boomers. the other thing is, Amazon didn't have a gamer fanbase and then they bought twitch and now they do. UFC could've got some of that Amazon money if they made some sort of deal to get their UFC fighters to be on the front page of twitch during UFC fight weeks.

Gamers also don’t play UFC games. You have no idea what are popular games for the gaming streamer base do you?

I think UFC fighters earn somewhere between 2-5$ on the PPV if I recall. So 200k buys could net you anywhere between 400k - 1m. Not bad.

When you talk about UFC fighters who didn't get enough credit, Demetrious Johnson is definitely one to think about. He might not have been the biggest draw, but wow, was he an amazing fighter. Easily one of the top five greatest of all time.

OK BOOMER, clearly you don't know what the top streamers are. they are "Just chatting" streamers buddy, people who don't even fuckin play video games. you don't think there's a bunch of people wanting to listen to fight stories from a bunch of actual fighters? people don't watch streams because it's their favorite video game, they watch them to INTERACT WITH THE HUMAN PLAYING THE GAME.

You're getting a cut of the money that you directly bring in. If the person doesn't earn much money for the company, then they don't earn much money for themselves.
