Media Ian Garry not interested in fight vs MVP: "His number's (ranking) not higher than mine"

Everyone wants to go up not down i dont know what UFC can or will do about fighters only wanting to fight up but its natural. You dont want to fight put it all on the line and gain nothing from winning.

This is where wins and losses come into play. Fighters on a win streak fight up, fighters on a loss fight down. Wonderboy or Geoff Neal make sense and would get MVP into the top 10 if he beat them. Magny and Luque are coming off wins but only on a one fight win streak so those would make sense as well.

Thats true but how many fighters sit out even after a loss waiting for a ranked opponent instead of fighting its not uncommon especially top 5.

That's a great fucking match up, and Garry would earn a lot of respect for stepping up.

Page is still a big name in MMA, regardless of where he is ranked.

I wish UFC would go ahead with interesting match making regardless of mid ranked fighter’s wants. There is currently far too much diva/prize fighting mentality imo. Ian is ranked #7 in the division. Someone in that position should not get to dictate who they will and will not fight. I don’t see JDM making demands and he’s ranked even higher. It’s not like Ian is finishing everyone like Shavkat, so not sure why he gets to call the shots.
If a fighter fights for an organization that demonstrably doesn't give a shit about their achievements by forcing bouts of unequal risk/reward with no sense of merit-based hierarchy, the only fighters it well retain in the long run are "gangstas," scabs, and the wanna-be Logan/Jake Pauls

No he wouldn't

Primarily Colby and Masvidal have been guilty of this and the UFC have obliged them by letting them sit out waiting for big fights. Burns, Luque and Magny will fight anyone.

imagine if MVP flatlined Garry like he did Cyborg Santos
and then instead of rolling a poke ball at him he slides over a self-help book about manipulative relationships
I didn't really agree with MVP's show boating after that fight with Santos but I would totally welcome it for Ian. He would definitely have it coming.

Sorry but an undefeated guy at #7 in the rankings with 7 straight UFC wins shouldn't be looking backwards, especially at a guy who just made his debut
For sure.

MVP is far from your normal guy with 1 UFC fight. I mean he's the biggest free agent signing the UFC has had in years. Since Askren and Chandler.

So I think in this situation, it could potentially be worth it for Garry because it would be a big fight on a PPV card.. but if he has the Colby fight in the works then that's probably a better fight for him rankings wise and style.

He has a point. He's close to an easy fight against Colby Covington.

Accepting the callout of a dangerous, lower ranked, relative unknown.seems like a bad idea.
Colby dry humps him like the Masvidal fight if he’s even close to peak form

This will make me care about Ian Garry now. NOT.

How are you going to play the heel with barely any body knowing who you are.

Yeah. It's the weakest excuse for ducking a fight imo, but it happens all the time.

Its actually the best excuse. Compare it to your work life would you rather take a risky job that pays less but if you screw up you fuck up your pay for the next 1 to 2 years or would you rather take the more high paying job that has less risks as far as if you lose to a guy above, you lose a spot at most? Compared to a loss that will drastically change your pay? I know what i would do but people might differ on that.

Time for Garry to man up and start taking some real fights and actually performing.
