Is Germaine de Randamie going to be the champion again?

She wasn't beating Holm. It was pretty even.

And no there's no way she's becoming champ again
The fact that Holm was badly rocked by the first cheap shot completely affected her ability to fight. But even if we ignore that, GDR should have had at least a point deducted. The judges scored the fight 48-47 GDR. With a point deduction, it would have been a draw.

She is old but she stays in relatively good shape. That 135 division is also really dead. By default if she comes back then she would be in top 5. Tate is completely shot and she is ranked number 7.

I'll never understand her avoidance for Cyborg. I genuinely believe she would have finished Cyborg.

She's old but that division is trash. I can definitely see it. Her stand-up is probably the best at that weight class.

What's with the GDR hate? She's literally one of like three women in the UFC that actually have decent striking. Is it the Cyborg thing?

I always thought it was out of (weird) principle. Actually not fighting someone with a background in forbidden substances. Kinda the opposite of what Mark Hunt did with Lesnar. And yeah, does not make sense career wise, win* or lose she would have made money out of the fight. But principles are what they are.

*I also happen think she would have won

People do kind of overstate the late strikes. GDR was already launching the 1 on a 1-2 when the bell rang in round 2. People reacted because the optics of that is that the 2 starts after the bell goes, but loading up on a 1-2 is a single thought or motion. Throwing the left is what makes your right shoulder load up for the followup. The late strike in round 3 is pretty egregious, with GDR just endlessly swinging through the bell. Though GDR was rocked at the time from Holly launching a headkick at her while she was on all fours, which was fully illegal, so it's not like the fight was all sunshine and rainbows on Holly's side either.

Nope, GDR had been rocked by the previous headkick and I don't think she was grounded when the second one landed.

After rocking Holm with a hard shot to the head after the bell? Holly could barely stand after that cheap shot. Impossible to analize the fight omitting the consequences of that shot. Not to mention that it should have been a point deduction, but she didn't even get warning. And the second time she did it, she should have been disqualified.

Boy it was at the end of the round

The division was literally created for Cyborg. She took the title fight knowing that Cyborg would be fighting the winner.

Isn't she like 50 years old?

I remember her turning prime Amanda in a panicwrestler... and showing no ground game whatsoever.

So no.

I wasn't trying to imply it was only the illegally thrown headkick that rocked her, just that GDR was rocked so she was a bit out of it, and before that, an illegal headkick was thrown. It'd be incredibly dishonest of someone to suggest that ONLY one kick did it, or that the second kick didn't at all contribute.

Dunno what the NY rules were in 2017, but that hand is down and was bearing weight, and the kick was thrown when both hands were down.

Was the second kick illegal though?

To be grounded, the palm of one hand must be down.

When Holly's second kick landed, GDR's left hand was very clearly off the mat and, if anything at all, only some fingers on her right hand might have have been touching the floor. The kick looks legal to me.

I wouldnt be surprised motherfuckers.

She's def a top striker, but damned frustrating to be a fan of for various reasons.

I can't predict the future, so I asked a crystal ball and a Magic 8 ball.

Their answers were along the lines of "WGAF." I guess they've given the 8 ball some new output :).

I know WMMA is short on talent but she shouldnt be allowed to fight for a title ever again. She dropped her belt because she was legit scared of someone. Its the only time I cant ever remember in MMA when someone was confirmed to be scared. Cant be a fighter and be scared.

I hope not she is a terrible fighter and gave the belt up to avoid fighting Cyborg. She should not have been allowed to return to the UFC
<{1-8}>
She didn't avoid cyborg she tried keeping Dana to his word. Something people should praise. She has integrity but that's frowned upon by a lot of you guys it seems. She deserves some more respect around here. She became champion having a full time job as a police officer. She took vacations from her job to fight in the UFC.
