I don't think that's true, I think it's a misreading of the basic principle: The Alliance is founded on the principle of collective defence, meaning that if one NATO Ally is attacked, then all NATO Allies are attacked.

There's an idea that every country in NATO mindlessly piles into Ukraine if Ukraine joins NATO, but that's obviously not true, and would never happen. It's not realistic or sensible, it's just more propaganda from those who don't want Ukraine as part of NATO and defended by NATO.

Except that's not what happened in Ukraine.

Imagine if Mexico wanted to join the BRICS which had transformed into a strong and rich economic union. The Mexican people were highly in favor of joining the BRICS because decades of primarily trading with the US had stunted the country's economic growth to the point where it was one of the poorest countries in Latin America. During that time, the Mexican people saw other Latin American countries join the BRICS over the years and completely transformed their economies.

Now imagine if Mexican elections have historically been contests between pro-US candidates and pro-BRICS candidates. The US occasionally meddles in Mexican elections to give pro-US candidates an edge (to the extent of even poisoning a pro-BRICS candidate in the past). But this time the BRICS deal is so popular that even the pro-US candidate has to publicly support it.

Election time comes and the pro-US guy wins. No big deal because he promised to allow Mexico to join the BRICS. And just as the bill is about to become law, the US President summons the Mexican President to Washington. When the Mexican President comes back, he withdraws his support from the BRICS deal and instead supports has a new "deal" with the US that "better" (but is actually worse)

The Mexican people aren't stupid so they know what happened. The Mexican President is a US puppet and he's doing exactly what he is being told to do by the US. They are sick of being a US puppet state. They want Mexico to assert it's sovereignty in the world and they are willing to fight to do so. That's what I call a revolution.

We are in year 3 of a war. The Ukrainian people are showing you where they stand with their blood. The idea that the Ukrainian people do not support their government's move towards the West (and it all being some diabolical US plot) was debunked the moment Russian troops entered the country and were greeted as foreign invaders and not liberators like Putin said.
