Chechnya has reportedly banned all music outside of the 80 - 116 BPM range, effectively forbidding techno and other dance music genres from the Russian republic.

As Sky News reports, the region's culture ministry released a statement last week demanding that "all musical, vocal and choreographic works should correspond to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute".
Artists reportedly have until 1st June to "rewrite" any music that doesn't fulfil the new tempo range otherwise it won't be allowed for public performance.

Very weird. Some of the national Chechen dances like Zikr and Lezginka are faster than 116bpm. Chechen Republic anthem is slower than 80 bpm. They kinda banned themselves.

You'll be lucky if it's just fast and slow and not music all together. The more it spreads, the more Sharia will get talked about as rule of law. Some areas are almost fully Muslim now and unless you get some strong secular voices in leadership, it's not going to be pretty.

I live in an area with a high (ish) population of Muslims and other faith's, and honestly, it's going the other way.

Communities can still be quite exclusive and separate, but the westernisation of this generation of young Muslims is nice to see.
